Sarge, I agree with everything that you wrote. Now take the remote start issue out of the equation. I have started my Wrangler with my factory fob still on my kitchen table and driven away from my house. (ok, here comes the aftermarket fob for alarm/remote start. I didn't remote start but needed key to unlock door. So in my head, I had what I needed, and this was not too long after I purchased the Jeep so still didn't have grabbing the factory fob in muscle memory/routine). Fortunately I stopped at the neighborhood Stop n' Rob which was only about a 1 mile walk home. Because the Jeep started within range of the factory fob, it went. I didn't die because it was out of range of the factory fob. To sum up, the factory fob is not needed inside the Jeep to start it and drive it away. P.S. I have fixed a solution so that will never happen again. Not trying to start a pee-pee contest... but your not thinking enough or not listening/understanding the advice given.
It just doesn't work that way .
The distance to use remote start and using the fob to authenticate a start are different.
You can remote start from a decent distance... but to actually bypass the security and do a hard start the fob has to be much closer.
*So you can see for yourself:
Try this.... take a buddy.... go to the biggest parking lot available or open space... remote start... YOU STAY at one end with you're fob and place your helper by the vehicle... see if he can "push the big red button and go".
It won't happen...
Even if you window gets busted... when they press the brake... the engine will die.
Not sure what else to say... take it or leave it.
*note: my statements are validated atleast with a 2022 JTRD, YMMV...
