A lemon law lawyer may have real professional automotive engineers who they could have do a formal evaluation and report of the welds which would could be used as a legal document. And you could file a formal complaint with NHTSA. Plus follow you could follow up with that news station who wants to run the story. That story could of course be picked up by auto sites like jalopnik etc. I think you could bring a considerable amount of hurt onto Jeep with a coordinated effort. Hopefully then they might do you right .

There seems to be a lot of early known issues with the JL, but this is the most serious to me

eager to see if this just affected several dozen vehicles, a few thousand, or nearly all of them til and if they caught it.... or decided it was a problem...

My husband and I crawled under my Jeep this weekend and inspected the welds. Most looked okay as far as we could see under there without jacking it up except for two that had some porosity. Some paint missing in some spots as well so we touched it up.

I found this funny... clearly a spot where a supervisor trying to point out a spot to fix however was missed

Quality control fail.
That describes the entire Jeep building process. Unfortunately.

I'm actually *hoping* I get acceptable reliability for at least a few years. Here's hoping lol

You act like JL's are falling apart driving down the road! Mine has been great as are the vast majority of them.

And I hope that keeps up for ya! I'm eager to see how ownership beyond three months goes for people. I'm also hoping I'll get good quality out of a summer build after a good hundred thousand of them have been produced.

Here’s pics from my Jeep as promised.

Overall I would say 95% of the welds seemed solid. The pics represent some spots that I found that were sloppy.

Some of the pictures look like the pitts are inverted - trust me, they are pitts, I ran my finger across all of these.

Here we go...

Heres the rust you all described. In this shot we see a crappy overlap.

They were going along fine across the frame then it jumped over this spot. Break time I guess.

Same thing again - seems like they went back over a weld thy was bad. Its just caked on.

Some pitted spot welds with rust.

Pitted welds with spatter all over - again. Do the welds go all the way through? Are the pitts shallow? Lets agree they shouldn’t be there in the first place....

Another pitted section, a place where they skipped welding completely.

A few more pits.

And here it is, the worst weld I could find in the rear drivers side of the car.

This is a difficult picture to see. Notice the indentation. See the gap in the welding it causes. WTF is that?

Here is an obvious gap in the welding they didn’t feel like they had to fix.

Here are some spot welds holding on the body mount side coupling. It had a full bead on the opposite side, so I guess FCA thinks thats “good enough” it only holds the body to the frame.

Another pit with rust next to it.

Not perfect, but all passable in my experience.

Man, I freaked out when I found some rust on a door hinge on my new Honda Accord due to missing some factory paint in a small area. I sanded it down and re-painted it.

Cleaning and painting that JLU frame will be quite a project, and not one that should have to be completed by the owner. I suppose if you want it done right, then you will have to do it yourself.

So how does the quality of these new JLU frames compare to the JK? It's not like Jeep re-invented the wheel. Hyundai Mobis built all the JK frames also.
