You took it back to them a 3rd time for the same issue? What did they say the first 2 times? And did they give you an estimate on when it would be available?
First 2 times they just wanted to adjust the alignment and camber. They are communicating with Jeep on the part to get priority status and lead times. Said they would update me on time frame but i am not happy about it after just spending $$ on a brand new Jeep

Ive had my Jeep for 2 weeks. I test drove 2 of them before this one and they drove fine.

This one wants to wander. You have to swing the steering wheel an inch to the left or right to get any movement out of the front wheels when going down a road. It can be parked and you can move the steering wheel up and down an inch without any movement in the front wheels.

I feel like the steering box or shaft needs to be adjusted or replaced. I also feel like their is a decent chance i take it to the dealer and get told...."well its a Jeep, they dont drive the best."

Edit: ive already had the alignment checked and its good. Tire PSI is at 35#

Exactly the issue i am having .. i was told that as well til they drove it with me and almost imediatly said there was something wrong and then looked up the issue and found that it appears the steering gear box is the issue. Unfortunately as i mentioned they are back ordered and i am being told at a min it will be 2 weeks ! Escalated with Jeep and will keep posted on status updates

I wonder if they are adjusting the new boxes? Seems like simply replacing the box with the same thing that's already on JLs would not correct the problem, at least not all the time. And, if they ARE adjusting the new boxes, then why can't they just adjust the existing box on the Jeep and cure the steering issues?

Apparently, having a 910am appt at the dealership means they'll be able to get to it tomorrow at best! Have to get a shuttle home. You'd also think they'd offer a free rental car as it also has a paint defect that will take a week!

No. I had an appt for them to look into my issue at 910am. They are saying they can't even have a technician look at it until tomorrow.

This morning I dropped off my new (only 130 mile) Rubicon and after the dealership put their best front end mechanic on the job, he adjusted the steering box and said all is fine and I can pick up the Jeep tomorrow. Fingers crossed..I'll keep you all posted.

Today I was told that earliest the part would come into dealer was July 6th. Unacceptable as By that time will have had in the shop half the time I have owned it !

My Rubicon is back from the dealer and the mechanic tightened the steering box, it is better, but I think it's still a little squirrelly. Anyone else have this problem with the JLU Rubicon?

Just talked to my service advisor. He said the technician couldn't find anything wrong with the steering. *&@^$#%^@#% . He said that I'll probably have to drive with him and show him what I'm talking about and probably tell him about what other techs have done to fix the issue. So, back to the dealer I go...then they'll probably need it over the weekend. What a pain.

Maybe there is an issue with the steering boxes prior to a specific mfg date (mfg date of the steering box itself, not the mfg date of the entire vehicle, thus new steering boxes will fix the problem. Or maybe steering boxes prior to a specific mfg date are more prone to go bad (due to problems with parts within the steering box).

I have the exact problem with my brand new JL Wrangler I bought today. The drive home was so frustrating. I'm completely worn out.

Everybody needs to report this to Jeep and the NHTSA so we can get some concrete answers and a fix.
