The AE version of the new JL steering gear box is now out - 68250506AE / 4 door. Previous versions where 68250506AC and 68250506AD. Confirmed with a Jeep dealer's parts department today. The 2 door steering box, which is different than the 4 door steering box, hasn't changed since last year.

Damn. I was so excited when I saw the thread title. I hope they come out with a new 2-door steering box. and soon.

In June before I bought, mopar is showing my dealer did the v41 recall. Is that the same?

So if the part is changed, is this a recall? Wondering what the odds are of rolling in and saying oh I hear there is a new steering box, switch it out!

There isn't a steering box recall and I'm not sure if there will be a recall on the steering box in the future. They won't switch it out unless your steering box is failing, unless you want to pay for it and the labor to install it out of pocket.

Thanks. Thought so. Next oil change I’ll get them to assess steering is tight and trackbar is current.

Let them get some miles on the new AE version. I have a two door and mine is AD version but I’m lucky mine drives fine.

Just scheduled to get TSB for Track Bar on Nov 1.

They will check Steering Box at that time as well.

I have to get an oil change and a sport bar speaker replaced so why not the TB and SB too.

Will report back.
Are they giving you crap for the lift?

I don’t have a lift and on stock suspension (everything stock) but I know for fact my service manager doesn’t care about that stuff.

The new trackbar did not make a difference in my case. So, my next step is the gearbox itself. They only did the trackbar this time which is understandable, one thing at a time. Hoping eventually it’s fixed because I love this rig. I don’t want to lift it or do anything until the steering is corrected in stock form. Then I’ll begin the lift/bigger tires and such. I don’t want to introduce potentially more to the problem. Kind of annoying because I want to do those things now but can’t..

EDIT:

If you’re having difficulties at your dealership, take it to St Augustine CJDR. Ask for Justin. He’s been great. I won’t take mine anywhere else.

Did the new steering box address the wandering issue we all see?
