In manual cars that have ESS the system is triggered by the clutch pedal being released while the transmission is in Neutral. IMO this is better since you'll have much more control than with the automatic as to when it shuts down and fires back up.I'm having a hard time believing the ESS will work with the manual transmission. I'm sure it could be done, but that it would be awkward. Any guesses? My bet is that the manual comes without it. That's a feature I'll be shutting off until AEV or someone comes up with a programmer that disables it.
However if we use the Compass as a guide, Jeep decided to omit the ESS system on the manual transmission model. So they could certainly do the same thing with the JL.
Since I'm a fuel economy junky I'll use the system most of the time, but I do wish it would retain whatever setting you leave it in, and without yellow warning lights on the dash when it's off.
