Hello,

I have a fully built 14 jk polar edition for rock Krawlin that I am contemplating trading in or selling and building a JL Rubicon. I want to order one but have a couple of questions.
1. For those that off-road your JL what are the experience with the turbo and and the 6 cylinder?
2. Have any of you who bought the turbo smack the batteries under the jeep on rocks or submerged them in water? How did the fair?
3. What packages did you get that are must haves and which did you have buyers remorse for and why?
4. Did anyone who Offroad shave buyers remorse getting rid of their JK
5. What size lift to off-road with 37” tires for clearance?
6. For those with the tow package how do you hook accessories up the to switches?
7. Is the mopar lifetime warranty worth it? Will it cover warranty work with 37” tires?
8. On a 2 door where are the batteries for the 4 cylinder?
9. Where is the sub for the premium alpine system?
10. I haven’t been able to find a door locally. How well does the premium alpine system sound in a 2 door?
11. 2 doors do not have a dual top option. Can you order the soft top separately and have it delivered?

Any other helpful advice is greatly appreciated

All of those questions have been answered on the forum - those answers include personal experiences.

Don't mind Jimbo, he's grumpy.
1. For those that off-road your JL what are the experience with the turbo and and the 6 cylinder?
Have the V6 - it's fantastic and proven. The 2L worries me.
2. Have any of you who bought the turbo smack the batteries under the jeep on rocks or submerged them in water? How did the fair?
N/A
3. What packages did you get that are must haves and which did you have buyers remorse for and why?
Tow package, 8.4". No buyer's remorse. Wish I had gotten steel bumpers and LEDs
4. Did anyone who Offroad shave buyers remorse getting rid of their JK
N/A no JK
5. What size lift to off-road with 37” tires for clearance?
2.5" should do it.
6. For those with the tow package how do you hook accessories up the to switches?
There is a wire bundle under the glove compartment and in the engine bay. Splices are provided.
7. Is the mopar lifetime warranty worth it? Will it cover warranty work with 37” tires?
No idea, that's an American thing. I'm not big on spending extra on warranties due to the information disparity. They know exactly where to price it to make a profit on it, which means it's rarely a good buy for you.
8. On a 2 door where are the batteries for the 4 cylinder?
N/A
9. Where is the sub for the premium alpine system?
Passenger side of the cargo area
10. I haven’t been able to find a door locally. How well does the premium alpine system sound in a 2 door?
N/A
11. 2 doors do not have a dual top option. Can you order the soft top separately and have it delivered?
Pretty sure you can. If you can't now you should later. Getting the hard top now would ensure you have all wiring and mounting points for it installed. The soft top is inherently an "accessory" from the factory.

Agree with above, except on #9. On 2 door sub is in the cargo floor, 4door passenger wall.

I’d be afraid of the 2L, personally. The V6 is tried and true, as you know from your JK

I got almost every available option on my 2dr JLR. Alpine and LEDs are must haves. Worth every penny and more.

Lots of folks will say to get a hard top so you get the factory wiring, but I don’t agree. The premium soft top is superb and no hard top needed in my case. (YMMV. I get why people who park in cities get hard tops, for example.) Adding the wiring down the road really isn’t a big deal.

Towing package if you will tow, or if you will add auxiliary equipment. No brainer.

Proximity entry? Meh. I never lock my Jeep because it’s a soft top. Maybe worth it for hard top? I have it and it gets no use.

I also got safety group and can say it’s pretty useless on a 2dr. (If you don’t know someone is in your blind spot with a soft top, you probably shouldn’t have a license!) But, my 16yr just started driving and every advantage helps.

Love my leather. Was great when I got stuck topless in the rain. Towel dry and voila.

Cold weather group is another must for me. Not sure what part of the country you’re in.

I have the steel bumpers and love them, but save your $$ if you plan to get something beefier in the future.

6sp is smooth. One of the best manuals I’ve ever owned.

My frame welds and steering are a-ok.

You will weather the trail without worry in your JK . Your JK answers all your questions .

I can only answer a few of these questions since I am a new Jeep owner, though I do have a Pentastar 3.6 Rubicon.

3. As for me, my "must have" requirements for the purchase were:
  • LED HEadlights, because more light is better.
  • Tow Package, because I might tow someday, and really because I want those AUX switches.
  • Upgraded Radio so I can see the damn screen better!
  • Auto Tranny, because I'm very familiar with the ZF 8 speed tranny, and I like it. Besides I've had manual cars for over 20 years, and have grown tired of them. FYI, the Tranny is awesome offroad and holds gears like I'd expect it to.
  • Hard Top Becuase I do drive on the road a bit, and I've got Irish blood, so the sun is not always my best friend.
  • Steel Bumpers. Got them, love them. Might drop in a wench someday, and a bar with lighting.
My JLU Rubicon has a few more options, but those were the big items I wanted, One major item I wanted was NO leather seating. I live in Arizona, plus I offroad so I see no value in leather seating.

4. There are some videos on Youtube that show people hooking up lights and what not. There's is additional programming that you can do to the AUX buttons through the Uconnect setup screens. None the less, the AUX switches are well worth the cost of the Tow Package add-on. There are leads for the AUX switches both insides, near the passenger footwell, and under the hood between the battery and the quarter panel. Jeep put thought into those Aux buttons.

9. The Sub is in the back, on the passenger side, not in the floor as I believe the older models were.

10. I cannot comment for the 2 door, but It' sounds pretty good in the JLU. It's a clean system, with overall a good sound. I wish the equalizer had more than three adjustments. Like 5 to 8 would be better, but it is what it is. I don't regret the purchase of that option though.

1. For those that off-road your JL what are the experience with the turbo and and the 6 cylinder?
I had the 3.6 in my JK and the 2.0L in the JL, I'm a fan of the 2.0L

2. Have any of you who bought the turbo smack the batteries under the jeep on rocks or submerged them in water? Haven't damaged or submerged the battery yet

3. What packages did you get that are must haves and which did you have buyers remorse for and why?
I'm a city boy so I like having all the options - I don't do well with regret.

4. Did anyone who Offroad shave buyers remorse getting rid of their JK
Not one bit - the JK feels old and outdated on every level.

5. What size lift to off-road with 37” tires for clearance?
Mopar 2" lift. I haven't lifted yet.

6. For those with the tow package how do you hook accessories up the to switches?
Easy under hood dedicated slots. Control how they power in the settings on the 8.4

7. Is the mopar lifetime warranty worth it? Will it cover warranty work with 37” tires?
I purchased it, They have been really great at honoring repairs on my other vehicles.

8. On a 2 door where are the batteries for the 4 cylinder? Don't know.

9. Where is the sub for the premium alpine system? Rear floor I'm told.

10. I haven’t been able to find a door locally. How well does the premium alpine system sound in a 2 door? Don't know

11. 2 doors do not have a dual top option. Can you order the soft top separately and have it delivered? Don't know.

I appreciate everyone’s input. After hearing what I needed I’m going to order a 2 door rubicon with the V6 or possibly wait 6 months and possibly get the diesel. That will also give me time to sell my jk. I know for sure I want led, towing, automatic, alpine premium system with the 8” screen, power everything, remote start, and cold weather package. I don’t care for the block heater, safety package. I’m torn on leather seats, hard/ soft top, because I live in Cleveland and being relocated for work. I’d also like to wait till the diesel comes out and see if they also will be getting half doors.

Don't tear your leather seats .

Relocated to where ? Another part of Cleveland ?
