Well, I live in Alabama and 9 out of 10 people here (my made up statistic) have a hard top on their Jeep. I just don't understand it really. Don't get me wrong, I do understand the benefits to a hard top in the winter.
Im with you.. Jeeps are meant to take the top down at a moment's notice! The heater in the Jeep Im fairly sure could roast a full course dinner. I feel like the hard top takes away from it personally.

I know it is not the prettiest thing out there but why not just go with the full soft top. Basically it is a bikini top when you take out all the windows.

My soft top is back ordered and I was thinking about trying to find some kind of bikini top as stop gap until the wife saw a picture of the soft top with no windows on it and said, what's the difference between this and what you want to buy? I did not have a great answer... so I sit here waiting for the soft top.
That's exactly how I've been running mine for the last 3 months. I took the windows out day 1 and put them under our bed. (Still waiting for the carrier.) Sometimes I'll drop the top all the way down, but the majority of times the safari top provides great windflow, especially with all the windows down.

Same here in NC. i see people with their hard tops on on a nice day in March for example and it makes me sad. But to each their own.

There are far too many people who want a Jeep because it is cool but never take advantage of the actual Jeep features. A lady I work with has a JKU and she is moving to Arizona. She has never taken off her full top or her doors. She told me she ordered a soft top cover for the freedom top area (sorry drawing a blank on that it is called) but it is like $600! O told her she could buy a whole new soft top for that. She said she would have to put the hard top somewhere though... I asked her why she wouldn't sell the hard top as she is moving to Arizona. You could tell the thought had not crossed her mind.

People buy a Jeep for different reasons, quite frankly it has a low cost of ownership because it holds its value so we'll, so to each their own, but if you live in an area with nice weather I do not even see the need for a hard top myself.

I went back and forth for a while on ordering a dual top or soft top only. I realized in the end that I would most likely use the soft top 90%+ of the time and would end up having to store/hang the hard top. And probably after swapping out this winter, I would likely not do it again. I took some advice from a friend that has both for his 2014 JKUR and I ordered the soft top only. Not regretting it a bit as of now :fingerscrossed:

Yeah. A few points about hard tops has me considering both, though.

1) Security. Briefly locking up anything valuable in a hard top would not be *quite* as insane as doing it w/ a soft top.
2) Temperature & noise control: the heat in AZ is brutal & I'm thinking the hard top would hold A/C air in better. Esp w/ headliners. But who knows.
3) Someone mentioned that ordering it w/ a hard top gets a wiring harness installed that would be a PIA to deal with when adding a hard top later.

have a standard 2 car garage & really not looking forward to dealing with that big roof hanging in there all the time, but...

Hard top is annoying to me, frankly. I can't freakin' wait for Bestop to make their announcements for soft top stuff next week.

And I live in the Northeast. Snow country. Ice country. Constantly below-freezing country. Soft tops aren't that bad, even the older ones on the older models. Pretty much all of my friends with Jeeps while we were growing up had soft tops the whole year long, and you just turn on the darn heater. It's really not bad at all. The only thing was with the cheaper soft tops during lots of snow, you had to try and clear the snow off every few hours to not let it build up and possibly cave in the top lol

The Bestop account on this forum stated to watch their Facebook on Friday, May 25th, for "MAJOR" news.

I bought a hard top for security and the fact that aftermarket soft tops will be available, whereas getting a hardtop later would be expensive and difficult. However I wish I had the ease of the soft top in terms of going topless. I need security because i constantly have expensive items for work and school in my vehicles. There is a purpose for both. I'll snag a bestop soft top before this fall.

My soft top was broken into so many times I stopped counting. Plus, hard tops look way better IMO. That is why I roll with a hard top and bikini. Any news on the bikini? :time:

What did you have in the soft top that kept getting stolen? I don’t keep anything in the Jeep but I still worry about someone breaking in for no reason.
