..and Chad, @IronChad if @JeepCares doesn't come through--and I think they will if the dealership doesn't, here's what you do:

Write a certified letter to one Tim Kuniskis, current head of the Jeep Brand with Mike Manley, former President, being promoted to head of all of FCA with Sergio Marchionne's recent passing.

You can find a decent corporate address for FCA on the internet. Regardless of which FCA mailroom it reaches, the staff knows that to do with "letters to the President."

Kuniskis will never see it. That's not his job, which is strategy and mission type work. But a well funded and specially trained staff under the auspices of the "Office of the President" will. You will get assigned a case number associated with the big boss' office. A sympathetic and intelligent member of Kuniskis staff will respond to and track the matter through resolution. You'll be given their direct contact information.

I will get resolved.

And the reason it will is part in parcel with why and when we use this remedy fellow bboard members. We don't pursue this avenue for "missing tire inflation caps." This is for the big stuff that truly are to a customer's loss, that weren't taken care of and documented by the customer.

Chad: I really get that the excitement of the new Wrangler purchase finds such problems a kill joy to the experience. But as you point out, it will be taken care of, and you will enjoy your rig in good health: the truly most important part of life.

Take solace in the idea that one of the many great aspects to this bboard, in addition to information exchange, is that despite its independently run status, FCA is here listening.

Oh for fucks sake. Can't wait for the purist to come in and point out we only hear about these issues because people come to here complain. :headbang: How did they determine the value it would cost for repair? I think the biggest thing is the guy just didn't respect your request to do an inspection which was beyond reasonable since you were driving 5 hours. That cost you time, hurt the experience, and the ability for them to make it right. That's a bad taste, now the AC isn't working that is magnified. If repair cost on a brand new vehicle exceeds the amount they cut you on a check I'd be livid.

Is it too soon to ask how the steering is? How are you liking it otherwise?

Yeah I'd be pissed off too about the scratch. I mean, if I scratch it so be it, it's a great story and provides character. But if it gets scratched by the damn dealer "trying" to prep it, then that's a no go in my book. At least let me scratch my own vehicle! That's where the fun is :)

Not that it does a bit of good to play Monday morning quarterback, but if you see something on a new car that bothers you at time of delivery, don’t buy it.

Have the dealership figure out how to get it fixed right. And we all know that getting things fixed right is practically never synonymous with getting it fixed quickly. It’s easy to see that traveling 5 hours to buy can cause a problem in an instance like this, since time is a bigger issue than if you were close to home. And your salesman definitely screwed you.

90% of what you find at the time of delivery can be taken care of without any real trouble on the dealerships part, but there’s that other annoying 10%. Things that require the attention of an artisan- a person that specializes in the task at hand. Like the scratch in this example. But.. that’s the way it goes with paint repair. Things need to be done right, or not at all, since it’s too easy to make things worse.

Kinda hard when you have already done the paperwork and they have the vehicle you traded it. On top of that I had plans I had made in Vegas. Not always as easy as it sounds to just refuse delivery.. especially driving 5 hours from so cal

They literally said the car would be buffed and detailed in 20 minutes while I was finishing paperwork.. when I came out that’s when I noticed he burned through the clear coat

Man, that's a bummer. I'm having the opposite issue of my cold weather package can't heat me up fast enough in the freezing mornings and nights here... But that's less of a Jeep problem and more of a me problem...

Chad,
A good shop can fix that up no sweat. Bummer you had to deal with it. LB has a lot of body shops. Your co-workers undoubtedly know the good ones. If not, Prestige Too in Torrance is a good one.

Dang. I guess we should all avoid the 2019 and stick with 2018. Bummer. I called Chrysler customer service and demanded a rental vehicle when my steering dampener went out and they gave it to me. Maybe try that. Sorry

I know you don’t need to be told this, so my apologies in advance. I swear!

Buying a car when you’re pressed for time isn’t a good idea. Put another way, when you were told the scratch would be fixed in 20 minutes while you completed your purchase, you were quick to go along since you had other plans.

Car sales/buying is mostly about control. Whenever buying a car always make sure you have it, not the dealer.
