So I picked up my 2019 JLUR today and as I was doing the inspection I noticed a small scratch. They assured me that it could be buffed out. I told the guy who was taking care of me I believe his name was James about 20 times that I did not want it buffed If they had to take out clear coat. He told me no clear coat would be taken out..

Well fast forward and letā€™s just say a lot of clear coat was taken out and Iā€™m pissed. I drove 5 hours from Southern California and specifically told Antonio that I wanted the Jeep looked at before I drove to make sure there were no scratches/issues.

All Antonio was willing to do was write me a check for the cost of how much it would cost me to get it painted when I get back to SoCal.

Not a happy camper right now

Stupid how lazy people are. A few minutes of treating that Jeep like it was their own and just looking took what should have been an amazing experience and ruined it. Sorry to hear this.

All you can do now is get it fixed. I know there are a bunch of people on here that are anxious to get their jeeps. Normally could play hardball and refuse the unit. Tough to do when you are that far from home and advantage is to dealer. The old saying "that will buff out" is not always the case. Feel for you.

At least the are making it right by covering the repair cost. It is new so there should not be an issue getting it matched correctly.

Ahh man. That just plain sucks they'd do that. That's plain rotten. Like you weren't going to notice or something . Call any local Porsche or Mercedes dealership and ask where they send their cars to for bodywork/paint. It's unreal what the high end shops can do. AND because it's brand new they can match it exactly and it will only fade as much as the rest of the Jeep over a long period of time.

I only know this because I was rear ended by a motorhome in my 3 week old Miata. The dealer I bought from was also a Volvo dealer so they suggested a shop and they worked wonders. I am very anal when it comes to paint and I couldn't tell anything had happened after they worked on it for 2 weeks. I had that car for 8 years and the paint never looked any different than the rest of the car and it was a bright metallic blue.

Jeeps lots of jeeps
When I went to pick mine up there were 2-3 swirl scratches on the hood. Looks like the porter had a bracelet on, or a coat with wrist buttons, while prepping it. I wasn't happy about it, but they buffed it out and it looks as good as new.

Then about a week later, I noticed an 8-9 inch scratch above the rear fender flare. There was also some glue. It looks like they used a razor blade to remove the plastic shipping wrapping... I have to take it in to get it fixed.

Seems like careless workers. Never had a vehicle show up with all these imperfections.

Just ask @cosine he knows!
Sorry to hear of that, going to get ours through Antonio in 5 weeks, hopefully this was an anomaly, and hopefully yours will end up looking good as new when the dust settles, good luck Chad.

I'm sorry this happened Chad @IronChad, but since what's done is done, let's put a positive spin on this.

* You detected the problem.

* You got the dealer to concur the problem existed.

* You got the dealer to cut you a cut, thereby ipso factor documenting that the problem exists.

Sure, it's time out of your life and a bummer, even starting off on the wrong foot, but I venture (if not Ventura...haha California joke..) to say that if top notch guys to fix it can't be found in SoCal, then they can't be found at all.

Bring it to a guy you like. Document with photos and paperwork. See that the dealer cuts a second check if your locale guy quotes a greater price that what the dealer compensated you for.

You seen to be a man of the badge. My telling you that this is relatively speaking not the big stuff, no shots fired, injuries, deaths...is wasted breath. You've probably forgotten more about this fact than I know.

I mean this in the least facetious way possible because it's really going to come off as that way.... And I'm going to grab my flame suit as well because I know some people treat their vehicles better than they treat themselves (gotta get that $$$$$$ mod, but eat Taco Bell a few weeks to save cash amirite?)

I don't know how 'little' the scratch was, but I really hope you don't take your Jeep offroading...

That being said, I completely agree that the dealership mishandled your situation and you made very specific requests that were not met and you were lied to. And it does suck that the repair possibly ended up doing more harm than good. That is a real bummer. But, I dunno, I'd maybe have negotiated a few bucks off the price and driven off a happier man. Because my Jeep gonna get a few more of them scratches that's for sure..... I mean I did wrap my whole Jeep with PPF as a preventative measure because I know it's gonna get beat up, I'm just hoping it gets beat up a little less

I agree, itā€™s just the point. Apparently the guy that ā€œbuffedā€ out my clear coat isnā€™t even qualified to do this kind of work. Also Iā€™m now going to be out of a car for 3 days and have to pay for a rental car. I had their body shop look at it and they said that entire panel would haha to be re-sprayed and then all the way to the door would have to be clear coated

The dealer should pay for your rental or that amount should be included in the check they gave you. If it is not, please call them and tell them you require rental reimbursement. If they donā€™t play ball, call the corporate office and explain your situation. They will pay for everything.

Iā€™ve heard people on here say theyā€™ve called because they ended up not liking their screen size THEY chose and got $500 bucks..

Sorry to hear your frustrations. It could be worse if that helps. I assume you do not have a Jeep dealer close by your locality?

@JeepCares anything you can do for this guy?
Thanks for looping us in, MORTON.

Hi IronChad,

We're so sorry this happened with your vehicle! If your dealership is working to remedy this, we recommend continuing to communicate with them at this time as dealers are independently owned, and they can best address any service issues directly. If you have further questions, don't hesitate to PM us.
