Living in Colorado, I use a trail app to select the best trails based on the area. There are over 600 mapped Jeep trails in the Colo Rocky Mountains. There is a potential that I may be moving to Tennessee, so of course I looked up the trails there. I get that Colorado has a lot of trails, however according to my trail map app, TN has 7 trails. That can’t be right, is it? Where do people go wheeling when they’re not near the Appalachian mtns? Any insight from those who live there, or lived there, would be helpful. Thanks.

Windrock Park in Oliver Springs has 73,000 acres of land with over 300 miles of trails. The Smokies as well as the Cherohala Skyway have many trails that leave pavement but are doable in a stock rig. Brimstone and Royal Blue also have plenty of trails. If I had to guess, the trails app you are using may be under utilized by those of us that live in Tennessee. I use both OnX and the Windrock park app when we go wheeling.

Windrock Park is awesome! I spent a couple days there, after Jeep Invasion last August. I'd like to go again this year, and spend even more time in that park. It's open 24/7, so one can also do some night time trail riding.

I've got almost the same pic next to that ledge! I'll agree that Windrock is awesome, and it helps that I live 20 minutes away! I don't even air up for the drive home!

Having moved from CO to TN I'd suggest living on the right side of the state. Not the left side.

As someone who lives on the left side I agree, the only benefit I get is being closer to the ozarks but it’s hours either way to get somewhere.

My thoughts, broadly, have been middle TN, somewhere between Cookeville on the west, Oak Ridge on the east, ~50 miles either side of I-40. From there will narrow down based on location research on crime rates / income / etc. That far enough to the right?? As you've made the move from CO to TN, would be great to hear your thoughts. Feel free to PM me if you'd like. Thanks for the input.

I don't live there yet. I have land there in the Chattanooga area. I have been to windrock once for an afternoon. Not nearly enough time, but still managed to get in 3 easy to moderate trails and is was great.

I would agree and suggest being to the right or eastern part of the state, because don't forget there's NC an SC both have some good wheeling.

I went to high school in Clarksville (north of Nashville), went to college in Cookeville, and live in Knoxville. I agree that east Tennessee is a better choice. Depending on your employment plans will determine where you should look. Cookeville has grown a bunch from when I left in 2009 but I lived there for 15 years and enjoyed it. Knoxville it closer to Windrock and the Smoky Mountains which offers you plenty of options for being outside. Aside from employment opportunities, do you want more rural or urban?

Rural is definitely the goal. Looking for land in an area with low crime and good schools. What are your thoughts on Oak Ridge?
