What is LG going to do with those batteries? Don't they make household appliances? (I have an LG washer and dryer and cannot recommend them enough.)

They are a massive $80 billion worldwide conglomorate that is involved in many industries from healthcare to electronics. They started in south Korea as a chemical company.

the NextStar Energy plant in Windsor, Ontario, has begun producing batteries. As of November 2025, the facility started mass production of lithium-ion battery cells.
Here are the key details regarding the plant's production status:
  • Production Pivot: While originally intended to produce batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), the plant announced in November 2025 that it would prioritize manufacturing batteries for power grid energy storage systems (ESS) to meet market demand, while still retaining the ability to produce EV batteries.
  • Production Milestones: The plant began module production in October 2024 using imported cells, and moved to full cell manufacturing ("spitting out lithium-ion battery cells") by November 2025.
  • Operational Scale: Over 1,100 employees have been hired as of late 2025, with a long-term goal of 2,500 employees.
  • Ownership Change: In February 2026, LG Energy Solution announced it would acquire full ownership of the plant from its joint venture partner, Stellantis, though Stellantis remains a customer.
The facility is recognized as Canada's first large-scale lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility.

Wait till you experience a problem with either the washer or dryer as some appliance service shops in my area will not service them due to major problems acquiring parts.

I bought them from Home Depot and they will service them if need be.

The LG set replaced a 5 year old Whirlpool set that gave me nothing but problems -- $650 motherborad replacement in the 3rd year. And they were bought from a local appliance shop (which is no longer in business, btw).

Mm. Reminds me of my selling dealer refusing to perform a transmission fluid & filter change, leaning heavily on the [fictitious, IMO] "Lifetime fill" language in the Owner's Manual. They literally refused the handful of C-notes that I had in my pocket; I had estimated six bills for the job.

It was no factor, though. I purchased the relevant supplies, studied the related sticky thread here, and got to work. Done. My concern about DIYing the job was unfounded.

Good for you.........I can relate to buying an appliance from Home Depot as just a few months ago, our Dishwasher crapped out and I was informed the needed parts were no longer available. So at Home Depot, I bought a top of the line model and H.D. was to supply the outfit to come and install it and haul off the old one.
Well, the guy that did the service managed to drag the old D.W. across our tiled kitchen floor and both scratched some tiles and cracked another. I had already supplied him with a "movers blacket" to cushion the floor but he did not take advantage of it.
I tried to get them to take responsibility for the damaged tiles.

But they would not...........I got what I learned to be their "canned answer" for such damages. Our house is about 20 yrs old and (of course) there has been "settling" which causes tiles to crack.

That is indeed accurate and in other rooms in the house with floor tile, I did have some cracks. But the middle of the kitchen floor that was now cracked was NOT cracked befor the H.D. installers work.

So that is one way they avoid responsibility for such problems.

I have a GE double oven, which is a lot heavier than a single one because of the insulation and heating elements. When the HD guys first delivered it, they scratched up one of the oven's handles when coming through the front door. My house's main storey is basically the second floor, so they were not very happy at all when I refused delivery and they had to take it out and all the way back down the stairs.

Customer service ordered another one for me no problem, but I did have to wait a month for it. The guys they sent this time were super professional, and told me that HD was vetting their service and delivery people more carefully now.

Same. We have LG washer, dryer, frig, dishwasher, convection and microwave wall ovens with no complaints. I know that’s just one data point though and not proof of much on its own.

I've done all our appliance repair as well. Once, I took our dryer completely apart one time to get to the gas solenoid valve. Refrigerators are easy.

In the last two months I’ve replaced the touch pads for both our oven ($200) and microwave ($125). Pretty big gamble to locate and buy these parts without knowing whether they would solve the problem. Next the broiler igniter and fridge ice maker when I get around to it. Not sure what any of this has to do with Jeeps (other than they often need fixing) but the Super Bowl is over and it’s time to start watching the Olympics.
