I have this feeling the Wranglers design will never cut it for a full EV for the masses. I could be wrong. But the batteries are heavy and take up a lot of room especially where it matters. That's why I think they are bringing the Jeep Recon out. That will be their full time EV Jeep. Well see I guess. Time will tell.
The [current] batteries are heavy and take up a lot of room. EV battery/power train technology is still very much in its infancy, similar to a Model T.

The ICE engines of the 50s-60s were heavy, huge, loud, and inefficient. The ICE engines of today are much smaller, lighter, and significantly more efficient.

The fact that a 2.0L 4-cylinder can compete with a 3.6L V6 in terms of power/torque is pretty incredible, and would have been impossible 20 years ago. In 20 years, I'm sure we'll look back at Gen 1 Teslas with the same attitude.

If I were to design it, it would have lithium storage reservoir to draw on.
To me it’s a lightening magnet waiting to strike.

Oh yeah definitely in 20+ years they will have much smaller batteries and the technology will be far ahead of what it is now for sure. This is only the beginning like you said.

Can't wait to see what happens when a 4XE hits 88 mph.
Hmmmm, I’ve only gone up to 85 in full electric. I’ll have to test that out and let you know. What year do you want me to tell you in?

Windrock Park in Oliver Springs, TN had one put in earlier this summer. I've never seen one in use there, but I think it's a step in the right direction.

My question is...how long will it take for one of these solar power stations to charge an EV? I'm reading stories of EV owners that are spending 8+ hours to get a full charge from a station wired into the grid (and some are charging $25/hour?).
Everything in this sentence is untrue.

Facts:
It takes <2hrs to charge the 4xe from empty.
Commercial Charges are $0.25 per KwH, which for the 4xe is $4.38
Jeeps Solar Chargers are all 100% Free (to jeep owners)
Wrangler 4xe can offroad for more than 3hrs on full electric mode

The solar panels, yes, are going to be pretty slow for a "live charge", but what if there were a few battery packs in the base of this thing? It's not going to get constant use, so those panels have from M-Th to charge the batteries, and then they keep them topped up in a heavy weekend.

It's not a perfect solution, but it's a first step to provide learnings and research for the follow ups.
I fully agree with the rest of your post, but I'm pretty sure there are batteries in this. These look like branded EV ARC charging stations, so they'd be in the big bit below the canopy.

I can’t wait for the future to not happen!

I thought we’d all be eating meals in pill form, flying our cars to work, and Florida would be underwater by now.

Either that or we should scrounging a living off rocks in a post apocalyptic, zombie infested wasteland.

I’m so disappointed. Why is 2022 so much like 1996?! TV lied to me.

I think Jeep needs to understand how Electricity works before diving head first into the EV world.....The current JL electrical system is just an absolute horror show.
