I would like to think I'm more of an exception than the rule though. My wife said she's not quite ready to give up her ride but if rates were more affordable i think she would be more apt to make the change sooner. People still need cars though that doesn't change. People will also still likely be spending to the same budget they otherwise were going to but again more of the money goes to the banks is all.
By and large higher rates are what's driving the reduced spending which is a good thing. People were paying way too much money for cars and people are still overpaying but not to the degree they were a year or two ago. If this is what it takes to keep from automakers raising prices higher I'm okay with it.

Prices are definitely a huge issue. Was just recently talking a neighbor about that. Used to be rates were significantly higher BUT prices were under control. Now prices are sky high and while rates were low it felt more balanced. We can't have both imo. Either prices high and the people that make the good are profiting OR rates high and banks are profiting BUT we cannot afford both.

I think it's slowing, but that's just based on the unbelievably overpriced "Final Editions".

Thread on here this week offering Final Edition 392's @ $9K Under MSRP. Everyone thought these were going to be marked $10K+, and they still may be at some dealers I guess.

Same for the Final Edition TRX. I was told these would be $20K over sticker. Two sitting on a lot by me at under sticker now ...

Was Jeep / Ram just crazy thinking these would be so desirable that they could mark them up so high above the normal 392 / TRX?

Stage 2 of a recession is people buying products like crazy knowing that the products are worth more than the dollar. So, I’ll take this as a good sign.
Which recession are you referring to? The most recent was four years ago in Feb, Mar, and Apr of 2020. We're in stage 2 of that now?

Jeeps seem to be selling just fine here in my part of Canada. They seem to back to the volumes pre pandemic.

If there were 2.0 gassers or 3.6s on the lot, the sales for 4xes would be lower.
Jeeps are easy to order exactly how you want them. Why would someone buy something they "didn't want and didn't ask for"?
I never have. ?‍♂

Jeep is not doing as well as they should or could if were not for a group of 14 states only allowing dealers to stock EV or Hybrid vehicles on their lots...hence so many 4XE's on lots. Now while a customer can still (so far anyway) order an ICE vehicle from the dealer, fact is most people buy new vehicles from the inventory on dealers lots.

Along with high inflation (how else can you explain nearly an 20% increase from my '20 JLR to a comparably equipped '24JLR?) and higher interest rates...
Merely stating the facts, not trying to get political so please, lets not go there...

4xe sales numbers are a loaded statistic.
Several states now require them, so they are all that is on the dealer lots (as mentioned earlier). The average American car buyer knows nothing about special ordering, wants it "right now", is swayed by stupid things (in this case the dumb ass blue accents/tow hooks), likes the tax credit, takes the instant financing of 8%+ on an 8 year note and all that matters is they 'gotta Jeep' and they're takin' it home today.

I have personally talked to two separate 4xe owners who daily drive their Wranglers that didn't seem to even know you could plug them in.

You would see the exact same "increases" with soft top sales if dealers could no longer put hardtops on their lots.

1. ignorance - "I'll just buy what's on the lot"
2. can't or don't want to wait for an order - "ill just buy what's on the lot"
