My favorite Youtuber lives and works out of Ursa Minor. @Venture4wd Chris has been living out of his Jeep and overlanding for over three years. He puts out a weekly video and has a great format. He has a ton of content all over the US, and Canada.

This is his vid on the Ursa Minor after living in it for three years. Give him a watch.

He also records all of his travel, way points, camp spots....litereally everywhere he goes. Then if you subscribe to his patreon account you can download all of his gps data.

I've been binging his videos for the past couple months and I'm basically caught up now.

I will watch his newest episode tonight when my wife gets home from work. We normally watch his new stuff on Sunday morning while drinking coffee, but we did four days of camping while crossing the U.P. of Michigan over the long weekend.

At Lake Superior at the end of a trail.

We crossed the U.P. from bottom to top by trail. and camped three nights out in the boondocks.

Care to share notes / route / places to boondock?

I live on the WI end of the SS Badger and want to hop on the ferry to MI and do a big loop - preferably trailing it in the same manner as you appear to have done .

Awesome....Trail maps?
I have snowmobiled the area for years. I also ran Giai on a tablet. I am amazed at what Giai shows on the maps. It was easy to navigate. The hardest thing was I am used to snowmobiling this area and well we ride sleds at speeds up to 120+ mph at times and cruise between 40 and 60 mph. So towing the trailer with the Jeep, the speeds were between 10 and 20 mph. So some of the things that I look for as way points, I though I missed at times because of how long it took to get to them. Plus there was not 5 to 12 feet of snow on the ground.

Surprisingly, many of the trails showed up on the Jeeps navigation screen. Not all of them, but many are seasonal or forest roads. So that was kind of cool.

Honestly, I did not plan our camping spots. There are literally thousands of spot you can pull off and boondock. I use Giai for mapping. Not for route planning, but to show what is around me. When I camp I look for a lake or river that has a trail that dead ends at it. Then I go check it out. If it works, I camp there, if it does not, I move on. There are thousands of miles of seasonal roads and forest roads in the U.P. Many of them will show up on Google Maps and you could easily plan a route with google maps. You just have to zoom in small enough to see them. Where I was at, I have snowmobiled for years so I already could have done the route with out a map. Giai did help me find places to camp that I would not have found otherwise. The other nice thing is the trails will have signs that point to towns, food and gas for snowmobiling. You may come to an intersection that will have a sign that points one way and five a town name and if it has gas or food, and then point another way with a different town and what they have available. This is done for the snowmobilers because most snowmobilers in the U.P. ride from town to town.

Thanks. I am used to being out west on BLM and Nat Forest land where dispersed camping is usually not an issue and is a very well known and accepted practice. Back east here it is more tricky to do that and not violate someone's private land or "camp only in designated campgrounds" issues - especially down south. I was not aware the UP would offer such ability and did not think north WI had much either, despite the nat forest land.

I use a teardrop camper. 1600 lbs, diesel and electric furnace, internet and computer, generator and (outside) kitchen. I installed an axle lift for big clearance. Best of both worlds.

It's a 2017 T@G XL (6 ft wide as opposed to the standard 5 ft). They're made by the company: NuCamp, based in Ohio.

I bought a 2011 Jeep Exreme Trail Rated Camper and basically did a refurb on it. Vinyl wrap, new tent, cleaned interior. It has a two person futon couch, a table, a seat, and a queen sized bed.

I love those campers. To bad Livin lite is defunct now. They made the best campers.
