Looking for camper recommendations that I can tow with a Rubicon 4xe with tow package. 2 people and 2 dogs. Wife does not like the small tear drops. Roof tops are out - not sure how to get dogs up and down. I'm currently leaning towards an ALiner camper. Just seeing what else might be out there.

Thanks!

For me, a soft shell roof tent with an annex was the solution. Annex is for the dogs, tent is for the people. No need to hook to a trailer. Doesn't answer your question, though.

I've been looking at trailers for a while. Sat inside the T@b 400, which is a large teardrop with a bathroom. Decent build quality, little on the spendy side at 46k. Next is the Airstream Basecamp 20. It's in the 50k range. Waiting for local dealer to get the Winnebago 171bd in so I can see it in person. Thats in the 36k range. Those are all in the towing capacity range for a JLU.

We have been looking too and are strongly considering a Boreas XT. The build quality is really nice and we want something with hard sides, heat, and a hot shower. Oh, plus we will be able to haul our two dirt bikes and mountain bikes if we want.

Annex for dogs? Yea...my boy would be up that ladder before I finish brushing my teeth.

Went squaredrop here. I should get it in June. I did a 5x10, and am looking at 270 awnings. It will work for my needs. Good and fast indoor space, but a lux outdoor space.

Are you looking to sleep, shower and use the restroom in the trailer?

Sleep is a must. Bathroom would be nice. Shower doesnt matter.

Tab 400 and Basecamp 20 are over weight for a JLU, GVW is above max rating and tongue weights are way over at around 500lbs.

Options:
Tab 320
Basecamp 16 (near tow limit)
Intech Sol Dawn (near tow limit) - Had one, you definitely feel it behind the Jeep even with a WDH.
Geo Pro/E-Pro 15TB
Aliner
Most pop-ups
Taxa Cricket - Very pricey for what they offer. I bought this after I sold our Dawn, not happy with the quality for the price. I have had issues and it has been a chore to get the company to resolve them.

@Bulletbill suggestion is perfect. If you get a grand Cherokee for towing, the options are vast. Not so much for the Jeep. What about flat towing the Jeep?

I could keep my ram 1500 and not worry about towing. But I'm in love with another woman (wrangler). :)

I would be inclined to get something bigger and more comfy your ram could tow. Get some nice ground tents or whatever for when you’re feeling more adventurous... I would consider folding the seats down and sleeping in the Jeep, with a rear hatch tent the dogs can stay in and a place to relax.

For example:
Jeep Wrangler JL Camper recommendations? 1a

Little portable toilet and road shower will make it just as useful as a tiny pull behind camper.

EDIT:
Apparently Mopar “makes” one.
