I am a guy and agree they are ugly. Use hot glue and it's a temp solution.

I am almost thinking you need a local who can dremel and wire. Replace the panel with switches from another vehicle that are more toggle like.

Definitely wouldn't have to be that color, or even that shape. Trying to think of a mass produced product that is a flat square, almost like the size of a scrabble tile, then glue it on the edge like the ones in the pic.
