I don't know about Canada, but in the US, If you changed the mileage lower than the actual mileage of the vehicle, you are in violation of federal and most states law if you did not put a sticker in the door jamb stating the actual mileage at the reset and are selling and not disclosing this in writing. The federal law is a felony. Be careful out there.
Same for Canada.

Lol. Can you imagine If dealers COULD change mileage. There would be millions of low mile, 1986 talking Lebaron's everywhere.

Ya, they can't do that.
I meant to ask if they fix the mileage to what you’re supposed to have , without removing the cluster again?

or does the Jeep computer fix it by itself after a while.

From my understanding, of both what I've read and heard from others, is that the cluster does not have to be removed. However, I cannot guarantee that to be 100% accurate. Also, whether or not a dealer will perform the mileage update/fix varies from dealership to dealership.

No.

From what I have seen, most dealerships in the USA that change out instrument cluster have the owner park the vehicle at the dealership and it sits until the replacement cluster the dealership orders is programmed for current mileage and given to the dealership for install. There is a contracted third party to MOPAR parts that will program them separate from the dealership. The dealerships do not have onsite odometer correction programing services for obvious reasons.

Indeed, Ferrari had a device called the Deis Tester that had the feature which could roll back the odometer. There's a bunch of articles on the scandal. Although employees claimed that Ferrari had to ok rolling back odometers on each car, nobody seems to have been charged criminally. Surprising, since big money was involved on some cars worth north of a million. I'm sure some buyers still have a sore behind over it.

Interesting, I'll look that up. I'm currently deep into the fishing tournament scandal going on down there. Lol.

Story time:

We just bought my kid his first rig, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Came from the dealer with the battery light on(and a myriad of other issues). My FIL wanted to get a new bed for it, sourced one with a Silverado shop(Silverado Auto Sales), and while it was there, they looked at things(unasked).

Turns out, there was no spare tire or hoist for said spare. There were no body mount bolts or "mounts". The water pump was leaking. The alternator and battery were fine.

(breath) Okay...

So they send a picture of the red bed they sourced, FIL is excited, I quickly tell my wife "that's not going to fit." It's a standard bed and Lil Red is a short bed. Oh, well, it's Dad's thing, he loves the deal and what not.

In the meantime(this is why I'm telling the story), they tell me that the computer can need an update and in the meantime will throw the battery code. Okay, sure, if the light is on and the battery and alternator check out, could be. $90. They do that and report back the cluster gauges don't work and that there are junkyard paint marker markings on the back on the cluster. It's a 03-04 cluster, not an 05. They have an 05 they can sell me for $200(this is where we stopped using them).

But the kicker is, I used a company in nearby Washington, and I literally typed in the mileage I wanted them to program it with. It sucks, because I'd love a Carfax on Lil Red to see what the last reported mileage is. The title says exempt. So now, while his cluster said 242XXX before Silverado Auto Sales fried it, we really don't know.

If anyone wants to see him get his first car, we got it on record.
