Instrument Panel upgrade

I know there are a few threads up referencing this mod but I have a very specific question.
I’ve read conflicting reports hopefully, with your help, this thread will clarify things .

I am upgrading the cluster.
my current cluster has 40k
The new donor cluster has 24k
The question here is…
Will the computer automatically update the donor to the higher mileage? Eliminating the need to send it out for mileage correction?

I haven't researched this topic heavily, but I do recall reading that the mileage is kept in the cluster which will require a correction of the mileage.

Thanks… I read that as well… but I also read that the mileage may reside in up to 2 other places. ??‍

I believe that it also resides in the ECM, but the display is not going to show that mileage.

So that’s where the conflicting reports come in…
I’ve read that if it’s lower mileage the ECM will correct it to actual mileage but it doesn’t do that if the donor is over your mileage.
has anyone tried this/confirm this?

? Exactly what I think I’m going to do… but I simply wanted to save myself some possible time… with both the mailing of the cluster and the dash tear down.
