If you have google music, you can just upload all your CDs to that and listen to them where ever you want, not just in the car.

Spotted at EJS: they are still making jeeps with 8-track players!

The new 8 tracks that replaced the 4 tracks were great. There was a plug into the 8 track tape slot FM receiver that let us get KZAP the New First FM station in town, before cars had FM radio. But while “cruising K” on Friday and Saturday night it was still Wolfman Jack on the AM ! ? gawd I’m feelin old

Call me a dinosaur. I had a hard time switching from cassettes to CDs back in the day (I still have a lot of cassettes stashed somewhere). And now (while I love my new 23 JLU) I don't have a CD player. I like to go on road trips and listen to CDs. I have Sirius, and I have Pandora, but I'd like to be able to know what I'm listening to.

Does anyone know of a CD player you can connect to your 8.4 radio like you can do with your phone and have it play through your speakers.

Man I had the same issue when I first got my Wrangler. All my test drives and I never realized none of the Wranglers I test drove had a CD player...

At first I was using YouTube premium because not only can I get actual albums of all of my favorite artists, but no ads and it had background play. So I'd connect my phone with Bluetooth and play all my favorite albums. Recently I canceled YouTube premium because they upped monthly payment from $9.99 to $14.99. After a while of listening to ads when I played my music, I downloaded YouTube music and found out their premium plan only costs $9.99. So now I run with YouTube music. When I'm not listening to actual albums, I have a bunch of playlists which I get to choose what songs are on there, no different than a CD-RW.

Also it's kind of nice not having to carry around and store that big lug of a CD case I had. There's not a lot of storage in the Wrangler as it is, at least not safe lockable storage. Also if you run with your doors off a lot like I do, you don't carry much with you because anything you do can get stolen.

I was reluctant to change with the times, but where I stand now is pretty nice. I would say try out YouTube music and at least download it and see if all your favorite albums are on there. ;)

Premium comes with downloadable/offline music. So you can listen to music in airplane mode and ignore the world like I prefer to do.

It's YouTube, so if you can find it on YouTube you can save it on a playlist and then listen to it in the YouTube music app. However some things like certain podcasts you can't listen to in the music app.

But hey the even have obscure Japanese death metal bands that I like...

Lately I've been listening to a created playlist of mine, with lots of French rap and hip hop because I'm weird like that! (I don't speak or understand French)

The newest update of the app is pissing me off right now though. One of the features I used to use a lot for no ****ing reason at all, they removed it. Basically they took something that was handy and threw it away for no reason. So I guess if you like certain version, don't update it until they force you to. I swear that's the problem with smartphones, they take away all your favorite features and add stupid sh*t you don't want instead.

I went thru that need to have my music available 10 years ago, ripped down all my CDs, organized the files, bla bla bla.. what a ridiculous part time job that was only to give in to a digital music subscription less than a year later. I get it with wanting your CDs and your format, but the faster you move on and less time wanting old media formats the more time and frustration you'll save.

This was the most fascinating read of Boomers Playing Music I've ever read.
Can the struggle be more epic? Will it ever end? ?

You do know that it is Gen Z driving the resurgence of vinyl, right? There was also a WSJ article a few months ago how the demand for new manual transmission vehicles is coming from Gen Z as well.

I'm a Gen Xer and I enjoy dropping the needle on vinyl sometimes and also going on a Saturday morning drive rowing my own gears. It is also nice to grab a CD from my collection slide it into the stereo and throw the CD case on the passenger seat.

LOL, I pulled the 8-track out of my bitchin camaro in the 80s and replaced it with a crappy cassette deck and Jensen speakers. Wish I still had the 8-track and the camaro.

If you want the actual meta data of the music you're listening to, you aren't going to get that with an external CD player. Your best bet is to rip your CDs, which should provide all that data including album art by literally embedding them into the files, and play them off a USB stick.
Agree 100%. The problem with a CD player is that it will skip when any kind of rough road is driven on. Any road with bumps and your music is jumping/skipping etc.

If you rip it from your CDs and make mpeg files on your PC, you can put them on these super small USB "sticks". Here's an example of one I use for my old cowboy music. 64gb and it's so small, its hard to get your fingers on it to pull it out of the slot. 64gb is about 91 CDs, and they make them with more capacity than this one.

Your math has to be way off, or you are recording at a impossible lossless standard. I would estimate a 64GB drive to hold about 4000 songs.

I read through this whole chat. many moons ago, I ripped whole CD collection to home NAS. I used Media Monkey. Cleaned up all titles, album covers, genres. It took a while, but its nice to have a nice clean collection. Still buy the occasional CD or digital album and its easy to add to the collection.

Each car & Jeep has a tiny thumb drive with the identical collection. Easy to update if new albums are purchased. No CDs to move back and forth. :) At home the whole collection is accessed via Sonos. And when I am away from home and a vehicle, I can access the whole collection on "Plex Amp" on my phone. I don't need my 44gb music collection on my phone.

Transfer your CD's to digital files and put them on a mini USB stick. I use mine with over 3500 songs in the center console usb port. Works great.

G.
ive got over 2000cds to rip. Ugh!

Around2020 they disappeared from most vehicles. But load your music on your phone is the best way

I have done this and love it. I also feel like a dinosaur. I always enjoyed books on CD when I was on the road... Now just a little harder [for me] with an added step. I also have a Garmin watch with 2,000 songs on it for hiking... never thought about a bluetooth connection to sync the watch and head unit...
