And as mentioned above, Threedom snap caps can help black out the final remaining chrome key locks. Spartan for the front doors and a tire tread for the tailgate...

I went through 4 different "stubby" type antenna's of various lengths. Ended right back at the factory one after about $125 worth of trial's. I did prime, paint (black), and clear mine with automotive paint at the end of it all. Tried plastidip, kept getting nicked and didn't hold up very well at all.
After reading your post I went out and put several coats of Spar Polyurethane on my plasti-dipped antenna; let's hope it holds up.

I like having an antenna that's higher than the roof line. It acts as an early warning for over head clearance.

I replaced my factory antenna with a black version from AntennaX, but never measured the original length until the new one showed up and was a couple inches shorter. Still sticks up over the roof, but not as much. My gmrs antenna sits at the original factory height. Here's a couple pics of it being my early warning...

The stock antenna just doesn't both me enough to change it. I do listen to AM talk radio a lot and am not willing to give up any signal. I had not even thought about it until I started reading about stubby antennas on here and the 392 forum. I went out and looked at mine once and haven't given it a second thought since.

I recently took a road trip to numerous cities in Tennessee. Due to so many homeless people and other night time scumbags, parking garages were my safest options. I just had to make sure there weren't any speed bumps in them, because 40's and nearly 6" of lift over stock doesn't leave much wiggle room. I also made sure I could see the Jeep from my room.

Also, I like the look of a mast style antenna on a Jeep. It looks proper. Nowadays, every run of the mill vehicle has a plastic stubby or fin antenna.

My main reason for switching was the OEM catches my eye way too much driving and drove me crazy ?

I agree that a mast antenna looks more proper on a Jeep, I just don't get why it needs to rise above the roofline. Ending flush with the roof would look aesthetically better, while still functioning as a low-clearance feeler (and still providing excellent AM/FM reception).

If they made the OEM antenna flush and coated/anodized black, it would be perfect imo.

Yeah, I can definitely see that. It did take a bit of getting used to having both the a-pillar lights and the gmrs antenna in my windshield view.

In a recent litebrite video, part of there prepping for the Jeep Invasion was finally removing the roll bar that spanned across the bottom of the windshield. It completely blocked their view of the hood and fenders. Now that would drive me nuts!

The one that I got from The Antenna Source (AntennaX) is 31". Factory was either 33 or 34". They also had a bunch of progressively shorter ones that would provide exactly what you describe. They are so cost effective that it doesn't pay to coat and recoat the factory one. These are also more rigid and constructed out of a higher quality stainless.

Yeah, replacement antennas are considered a gateway drug around here. ?

And so it begins…
Hi ! I’m Mike, and I’m a Jeepaholic. I started Jeeping when I was 14 and Jeeped for ~50 years. I thought I had the habit beat and got a 4R. But my resistance was weak and went back to my Jeeping habit. I immediately suffered “antenna madness”, my first mod. I presently have 6 order and shipping confirmations , 4 have already arrived. I might soon have to start stealing Bronco antennas and sell them to afford my addiction! :crying: :jk:

I removed my antenna. It was just a distraction in my FOV. I thought about buying a stubby but there’s really nothing on broadcast AM/FM I care to listen to.
Did you put anything over or inside to prevent road grime from getting in the threads? I had a stubby on my first jeep, but the removal to put on the new one wasn't possible when I did the trade in exchange. I agree with the nothing to listen too on commercial radio. At least the antenna will rest under the drip rail when I put the cover on and not cause issues with it.

May I also suggest a protection screen for your touchscreen? Highly recommended.
(and this is how it starts) ?

Show the drivers door key hole.
Dang you! Good thing is others on here have already solved that for me. Now I have to place another order, maybe two those black hinge protectors caught my eye. Already caught 3 chips on the rear driver side lower hinge.

I am shocked I dont see more of the hinge covers. They are stupid cheap but from a distance look great in my opinion, adds some contrast.

After discovering a big rock ding in my rear door hinge, you’ve inspired my next mod. Thanks!

Get them LineX'd or bedline them yourself. Plastic covers that stick on just hold dirt and grime. I also bedlined my door and tail lock.

Super cheap to colour match your bedlining as well. Just use Mopar paint after the bedliner dries. The one above are colour matched from LineX in this case though.
