Im curious about the highway characteristics of a ram assist. Is a ram assist still as precise as OE steering? I'm running 37s, 3.5 MC lift, MC tierod, and draglink.

While I've never used these aftermarket versions, I have driven big rigs with hydro assist. Couldn't tell any difference.l, and there really shouldn't be. You will still have all the tradition steering linkage. Your just adding some additional power to help move those bigger tires.

Hydro assist on the highway feels more precise. It'll take a few miles to get used to it, but afterwards, you won't really notice it. It will drive great.

Mine feels the same on highway........ running a Lee Power Steering -modified stock steering gear and ram. Still utilizing stock hydro / electric pump. The only difference I notice is higher effort is needed for fast steering inputs.

So, there are at least a couple systems out there. The complete PSC Big Bore with and without ram, The Apex with and without ram, and probably others. Can you recommend a direction for my setup?

Big bore with Ram. Buy once, cry... Lol. Face it, you'll cry more than once.

PSC is pretty much the only thing the pros use.

Been running Red Neck Ram for 10 years. Used on the JKUR and now on the JLUR. It has been a flawless system. Drives like stock on highway.

Yeah, seems like I only get a break from crying while I refill the coffer.

PSC is the most common. Here are my thoughts..

My 19 had terrible wondering from the factory that we all complained about. I went through and did everything I could to rectify it before the gear box TSB went out. It was stock on 35s then. Added the the Mopar lift LCA's for a little bit more caster, added a sector shaft brace, swapped to an aftermarket steering damper, and constantly checked for excessive play. Helped quite a bit. It tightened it up but man it still didn't track as well as my SD with 90K on it's factory linkage with some rough abuse off-roading over the years.

Once the TSB went out I had already in the works planned on a motor swap and redo the steering because it made sense while the engine bay is empty. Going with a PSC box and Ram.. night and day improvement. Point the wheel and it goes and stays. No more wondering on the highway, no more fighting the wheel when the fluid gets hot on the trail, completely worth the investment. I think if I didn't have plans to go as far as I did with this build, I would still invest in ram assist.

Since you're on 37s, do it and don't look back. Another thing to note since this is my first ram I have used, mine doesn't return to center all that well (taking a turn and letting go of the wheel). I don't mind turning the wheel back for the sake of it tracking straight and the ease of turning pushing large tires on obstacles. Others can chime in on that since I am not an engineer and it doesn't bother me. It could be just a "my rig thing," but don't let that stop you since mine is kind of not your regular JL/JLU PSC kit. AMW uses the factory Hemi Pump that runs to their specific PSC box which is a 2 door JK PSC box with some other AMW adaptors that pushes the ram. They claim the big bore box doesn't fit. Not sure how true that is though.

That’s not true at all.
Have a look at all the ultra 4 cars and what they run ?
Do they drive on the highway?
