With the Etorque system its instantaneous so I never turn it off, great for railway crossing when you have to wait for the train to go by. (Or a bridge that opens for boats to pass)
And I enjoy the peacefulness, silence is golden as they say......

I save in city stop-n-go by driving my Ford dinky car and letting the jeep nap in the garage.

I live close to downtown. More than half of the time I am stopped at traffic lights. Stop start makes a big difference, except on very hot days when the AC makes the engine turn back on. With eTorque the system is seamless.

Fortunately, this feature works really well with the manual transmission. It only engages when you are at a stop, in neutral, foot off the clutch pedal, and seatbelted in. Which means the engine only shuts down when you know you are going to be sitting for a while.

Wait until gas gets really expensive again (because it will) and the same people will be in here bitching and moaning about how expensive it is and how they can’t afford to drive their Jeeps to work and they have to decide to buy groceries or get gas but can’t do both! Lol
I do get a laugh out of those folks. Drive gas guzzlers, then complain about the cost of fuel.

My other vehicle is a 7.3 Powerstroke. 35 gallon tank in California isn't cheap to fill, but that's the price I pay for having a vehicle that fills a certain niche.

But I also bicycle commute.

Exactly. The "gas is so expensive it's ruining my life!" people are often seen driving lifted brodozers on bald 35's and 37's. Eat your truck? Ride a bike to work? Idk what to say. Maybe call Suze Orman and ask for some advice, for starters.

We own vehicles ranging in MPG from the wheeled equivalent of the Exxon-Valdez to an EV. If I had a long commute, I'd absolutely be driving something disposable, fuel-efficient, and I'd leave the ASS on. I've seen cars with ASS last, it's no big deal. It's only here in the US that people get all indignant about it and think their way of life is threatened by a simple fuel-saving tech.

be great if Jeep would retroactively remove them :)maybe they won't be so concerned with eking out that last drop of fuel.....again if someone likes it, keep it but if someone doesn't let them get rid of it.....
It can be turned off, and it can be disabled. What more do you want?

3.6 minutes was the average for how long the surveyed people thought it would take for it to be beneficial. The two vials showed how far off their estimates were from reality.

Based on their tests the break even point was seven seconds, not 3.6 minutes.

Consider watching the video before giving your humble opinion on how it should have been done differently.
I’ll admit it. I didn’t watch it.

But why show what people thought it would take to be beneficial based on a survey instead of showing what it actually could save? Did they mention who they surveyed? Was it mechanics, environmentalists, or a car full of nuns?

The ASS defeat(E-SAVE Charge) on the 4xe burns a lot more gas, but a small price to pay than to have to deal with the Stop|Start annoyance.

The 3.6 Wrangler have a spot in the brake pedal travel that would prevent the engine from cutting off.

Honest answer; I don't want it to be on by default every single time I restart my Jeep. I don't want to spend money on an aftermarket device to hack into my vehicles computer brain just to reprogram the way a single button works.

If it would just permanently stay off at the press of a button, then no one would even be talking about this.

C'mon dude, we both know they wouldn't listen anyway.

Voodoo Glow Skulls had a fantastic song about exactly that, called "Bro Truck". I still laugh every time it comes up.

Not to get off track, but one of things I find interesting about engine start stop systems is the degree to which people seem to find pressing the button to turn it off so, for lack of a better word, difficult relative to the time and effort involved. Clearly, there are a fair number of other driving tasks no more burdensome that, while many have more and more become automated (headlights, wipers, etc.) don't seem to conjure up the same complaints; just as sure that tech to automatically turn engine start stop isn't prohibitively priced.

Rather than label or judge such complaints I've sought to understand them. And no surprise, we find tasks that limit our freedom if we don't do them, or ones that we just don't want to do more difficult than similar or more difficult tasks that lead to joy.

I use it. And, yeah, it's annoying on occasion... particularly when it shuts down just before I shift into Park... but on balance it saves fuel and exhaust so I'll live with it.

It doesn't always save fuel. For some people, it consumes more fuel. That's the point.

I would say it is only in the U.S. that people think "I like something, therefore everyone is required to have said thing."
