It seems to trigger some people around here. To be honest, I have the 3.6 MT and when it performs the Auto Start/Stop I barely notice and I don’t mind.

I’ve had a 2.0 and 3.6, both with eTorque. Seamless start/stop compared to my previous 2.0 in the ‘18 Giulia with conventional start/stop. I keep it on. Smoother rpm matching downshifts and regular upshifts should also make it easier on the transmission.

Ours is just the regular 3.6L, no e-torque. I will say I finally experienced it on the way home from dinner tonight. It wasn't half bad. You feel a little jolt when it kicks back on but nothing like I thought it was gonna be. It was a lot like my Maverick where you barely feel it.
Ours a 2018 V6 ess - never loved it but then never hated it. Just modulate using your brake pedal pressure. Light pressure stays running. Hard engine stops. Batteries both still original. Starts up no problem and ess kicks in almost right away. But then we do the deadly sin of using a separate smart charger for each battery. Haha!

Most our batteries go 10+ years. Swapped out our Porsche battery after 12 as it finally died this summer. Still had a charge to unlock the hood - but just not enough oomph to start. Dammit. Yeah that OEM is a tad pricey.

But agree also it is not that bad - as ours kicks in quite smooth as well. So no real biggie to leave on or simply press the magic button to turn off. Essentially a non-issue for us. But others - seems to be blasphemous to use ess. Ever.

OP is in south florida so probably hot and using AC which if your vehicle is cooling or heating it will not activate....

Yes, in south FL, we use our A/C 12 months a year. ESS hardly ever kicks the engine off in the summer.

My auto stop/ start work intermittently( not complaining I hate it), it has a mind of its own

When it chooses to work, A light "clunk" is heard

My 2018 JLU auto start/stop (ESS) has been running seemlessly since purchased new spring 2019. The only caveat is you need to understand and monitor your battery charge level/health. New vehicles purchased have probably been sitting on the lot unused and the batteries could be in a weakened state.

The factory smart alternators are fairly wimpy and won't keep our batteries charged unless you have a decent commute and/or regular weekly miles. When I travel, I use a battery maintainer at home to keep both batteries topped off.

I'm on my 2nd set of batteries and upgraded to an H7 size for main battery when I did. There are many great existing threads in this forum of the subject of batteries and ESS.

Many 3.6 JL owners have battery anxiety, because all hell breaks loose when battery levels drop below critical, and it’s easy to reach that condition, especially if your jeep is driven infrequently, because there is always some parasitic draw, and there’s a funky relationship between the battery you can see and the little motorcycle battery buried two layers below the fuse box. I always keep my jeeps inside on a trickle charger, but that didn’t work with the JL.

The start/stop function is disabled at low battery levels, but it also expedites your trip TO lower battery levels. Also, the two batteries seem to age/fatigue at different rates, so the easily accessible battery may be fine, but the buried one isn’t.

When my battery got low the dash lit up like a Christmas tree, the wipers started up, and every warning light was illuminated. Pushing the start button didn’t even produce a click. It wouldn’t jump start, even when hooked up to a hefty booster pack… I eventually went to the Genesis battery solution, but before I landed on that, and even after installing it, my jeep went through multiple episodes of losing its mind in one way or another. (Refusing to start, showing inadequate battery power when both batteries were fully charged, showing faulty ABS sensors when they were fine, etc…)

I just want my jeep to work when I push the start button, even if I lose .5 mpg to get there, so I was happy to disable the auto stop/start feature permanently. I was also happy to get rid of the little motorcycle battery I couldn’t access. Life is simpler now.

Mine is hit and miss. After reading this post, I now realize now why. My ac is on all the time. My auto start works sometimes but initially I was 100% against it as in some other vehicles it felt like an earthquake! I have a '23 JL 3.6l e-torque and k honestly do not feel it what so ever. 10k miles, 21.6 mpg, stock 18" tires.

You're not wrong! It's a sauna most of the year down here! A/C gets a workout 😁

I have the 2.0 with e-torque and the start/stop is smooth and seamless. My wife’s Pacifica must use a different system, and I absolutely loathe it. The Pacifica is very annoying when it starts back up.

I have the 3.6l e-torque and when the auto stop/start was active it was, 'buttery smooth'. But it was also annoying which is why I permanently disabled it.
Curious..how did you disable it?? Thanks

it is amazing who quick it becomes a reflex to just hit the off switch. now when I get in my wife's mazda cx5 turbo I am reaching for the off switch and we don't even have auto start on that car.
Pretty much automatic for me.

Regular 3.6, defeated via Tazer which I needed for other adjustments.
