Rhode Island goes by vehicle weight - my 2 door is $131 for 2 years. State inspection is $55 every 2 years. The state just dropped vehicle personal property tax a few months ago.

As an Over-Taxed Californian, My current yearly registration is $469.00 (2019 MOAB), not to mention that gas in my area ranges between $4.00-$5.00 a gallon. *I mention the fuel price, because CA has layered on additional fuel taxes, sold to us on the broken promise of improved infrastructure. I unfortunately dabble in such things and personally know that this was nothing more than a bait and switch. On the plus side one of the architects of the last round of gas tax increases is no longer in office.

California has a high cost of vehicle operation and yet some of the worst roads. Some might say our crumbling roadways are made for JEEP owners!

Mine was $86 to the state and $6 to Brevard County for a two year registration.
So to break it down it is $43 and $3 per year.

EDIT: My Tundra is a beast, I'll walk out there and get the numbers off of it.

They changed my Tundra from calendar year renewal to birthday renewal so I have a 21 month renewal. The yearly state tax equivicates to $98.14 state and $6 county ($104.14 total) for 5,130 Net Weight and 6,700 GVW pickup truck.

$168 for mine in MI, and no inspections required by the state. Ours are based on MSRP of the vehicle. (or weight if the vehicle is older than 1984)
