Haha that is like ours, the registration is like 125 bucks then the muni gets some and state gets some and other sticky hands for a little more.$157.50 for 2 years. $120 is the registration itself (up from $95 last year) and the other $37.50 is from "clean air act fee", "greenhouse gas reduction fee".
I like CA for the "feel better" factor. Whenever i think how much CT has declined and gotten more expensive, something about CA pops up that lets me know how much worse it can be.
Gotta love California. I just paid 1300 to transfer from Arizona to California for my 2023, although 300 of it was the difference in taxes paid.I just paid my yearly 2021 JLUR vehicle registration in Southern California....$535.

But you have a Jeep so driving our roads is like practice!Just shy of $400 bucks for the privilege to drive on CA's crappy roads for the year.
I don't claim to know what all those fees go towards, but I can tell you the following. When I moved to CA in 1987 I lived near the foothills. Most days you couldn't even see the mountains due to the smog. Now I can't remember the last time that happened. Living in a metro area that has 14 million people is going to include some costly challenges that don't exist in the backwaters. Here is the breakdown. I guess "technically" the base registration is only $65. The other $470 is just a few other registration "fees".
