I’m one of the folks who experienced screen degrading (see below) on my 2018. Only noticed it in very bright sunlight. It was replaced under warranty. No idea if it was due to lack of screen protector (I think some of the early builds had this same issue) but regardless I installed the Mopar offering on the new unit, and no issues since.

No, it is. I forgot I had it on and I can't tell just by looking at the screen, so no reason to take it off.
Oh that's good then... That means it's held up well and you don't even notice it's there

I would never have bought a screen protector if I hadn't seen the degradation and damage from others posted on this forum, i.e. I bought a hardened glass screen protector because of posts on this forum.

Since the infotainment unit is so tightly integrated into other functions, and since I plan to keep the Jeep a long time, I don't want it to look crappy.

Mine looks just like this, except it's one big sploj right in the middle. I'm always super careful and pretty much only I touch my screen, so I have no idea how this happened, and it's only visible under direct sunlight. I think I'm still under warranty, so I'm gonna have to make an appointment.

Also, anyone notice burn in on their screen? If I'm looking at maps, per se, and then switch to music, the circles from the map can be seen for a while faintly. It's weird.

BLF: I didn't have one on my original radio. after 20k miles the screen looked like trash and had wear marks/finger print marks on it. So when my radio was replaced last Friday w/ 35K miles on it, I picked up one of the Amazon tempered glass ones linked by another individual on this forum. It's nice and easy to install however it does have a bit of glare but. I feel that it's going to hold up better then just the normal 8.4 and it looks a lot more finished.

Were you able to get it bubble free? Do you have a link to the one you used?

I do not run a screen protector on my 8.4. I don't know if it would help with delamination at all since someone in this thread said they had a protector and the screen still delaminated (I suspect due to the heat, my 8.4 gets crazy hot to the touch). I do see the value some have for a screen protector. Seems like a dog or a child may scratch it very quickly.

I install matte screen protectors on everything to stop sharp glare and avoid fingerprints. I installed it on day one and almost 3 years later it's still great. At the time I purchased, RAM trucks had the 8.4" screen, so it was not JL specific.

I installed the Mopar one the first week. It took 2 attempts so glad they had 2 but never notice it, it's been on 2.5 years.
