In my opinion once you go from a car to a lifted truck/jeep, you wont ever look back. You start to feel unsafe sitting so low to the ground.

I sold my mx5 because although it was the perfect car for my driving style, i couldnt look at it the same after parking my quad next to it and realizing they were the same height, and nearly same length.

Considered it yesterday actually! I do agree I HATE the red rubicon dash, I don’t get that at all. Measured my garage and it’s too long for my garage so it’s a no go. If I can’t drive it 5 days a week I don’t want it just parked in my driveway.
Yeah, that stinks and makes a no-go for sure.. for the wheeling in Colorado, if you don't like rocks, when jeep makes a mojave wrangler (i'm sure it'll be 4 door only) that's where I would start.. They do smooth out the bumpy rock beds we wheel on down here.

Apparently Jeep just jacked up the price of 4Xe THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!

Pfff...!

If Bronco is adding competition, Jeep surely doesn’t seem to have noticed!

there’s so many models already it’s dizzying lol. Tat would be an upper trim I assume? Like the Sahara or high altitude or whatever is above the rubicon.

I sold my 2015 Audi S5, it was really fast and took corners like it was on rails.

But I ended up getting a 2021 Rubicon 4 door .. The extra space was way more practical for hauling stuff and its also opened up a whole new world of outdoor activities.

The handling from going from a sports car to a lifted jeep was an adjustment for me. You can't corners really fast and at highway speeds plus the wind, to me it felt unsafe because I was used to being in an aerodynamic vehicle that was planted to to ground.

But with all of that being said, I still love my Jeep and I made it my own .. will eventually get another sports car some day.

Just heard of it on today’s TFL live chat.
Holy crap, they just raised it $1,200! I guess my 5 weeks of waffling really kicked me in the ass. I was considering a Sahara and maybe changing out those ridiculous rims.

392scat, I can honestly say that I know where you are! I have mentioned this many times on this site...I have had 6 wranglers in my life going all the way back to 1994. This last JL I absolutely love!!! It is everything I could ever want or need, I searched and found it 2 hours away and I traded a 981 Boxster for it.. I loved the boxster and even though I had put dedicated snows on it the fact that anything more than 4 inches of snow meant my commute was gonna be hellish, not because I couldn't but more because I knew if some fool lost control of their car it might mean wrecking mine. So the search for something that I knew I would like led me back to a wrangler and of course it had to be a manual/2 door which became an almost impossible task. Found one and did the deed....now I no longer have to worry about it being scratched or dirty, Heck I will go out some weekends and get it covered in mud. My point is choosing the wrangler actually freed me of a lot of headaches with the porsche and the wrangler actually helped me to regain what i loved most about this vehicle. The feeling of freedom!!! This Rig can go almost anywhere and it actually does feel like an extension of who I am. It is a feeling you really can't get from any other vehicle.
2 door for a 2 door!

I have a 2019 Challenger scat pack that I absolutely love. The issue is (no not kids, thank god) the car isn’t always the most practical. It can be unsafe in rain and completely unusable on .0000001” of snow, (woo torque) and because ECO is crap and I worry about using the MDS on the engine.
I have a 2021 Rubicon and a 2018 Camaro SS 1LE

Your scat pack will be safer in the rain than any Rubicon (on the typical tires that come with both). Not sure why you think it is unsafe or what makes your Challenger unsafe in the rain.

Also, with winter tires, and even some of the newer all weather (vs older all season) tires with 2-mountain-peak rating, your Challenger will be totally usable and safe in the typical snowy roads. And again, on the average plowed winter roads it will be safer than any Rubicon. The Rubicon may accelerate faster but will take longer to brake and will be more prone to roll-over if you get sideways.

(not trying to dissuade you from buying a Wrangler, just not sure rain/snow safety is going to be improved)

Do you drive your Camaro in the snow? Lol. I did my 17’ V6 Camaro with blizzaks and it was great but way less torque. So from my experience, the Challenger has SO MUCH torque from low RPMs it makes it a hard vehicle to drive even on dry roads. I drive my work van all week and it takes an adjustment once I get back in it. Because it’s really easy to bark the tires from a stop. It’s also really easy to put it sideways on dry roads, wet is another story. Now, mind you, I got a little sideways by being dumb so mindful driving is a bit different. So truthfully it’s about capability and I don’t want to drive my challenger in snow. I know I probably could with the correct tires but I didn’t want it to be that. On days it’s snowing or snows a lot that’s when a Jeep would be handy. Mountains, trails, dirt roads. I backed out of my driveway in the challenger once during the winter to no measurable snow. I could not MOVE ? It took a lot of careful driving and driveway scraping to get it back in the garage.

Yeah, I know, I don’t want to be ‘that’ forum guy. But, I’m keyed in on only Rubicon so it removes some of that discussion. I’m going to go tonight or tomorrow and try and drive some, there’s a few on a lot nearby. Either way, my questions were fairly specific on if anyone has been in the same situation as I am with a sports car or having 2 off roaders.
Hi WIlliam - I had the same concerns re: sports car to Wrangler. I've only driven sports or sporty cars (except for a short stint with a responsible lackluster suv during my post divorce era). So for my mid-life crises, I figured that I already lived my life driving the mid-life crises cars, so why not try the Jeep? It's certainly NOT the same experience at all but I find that my smiles come from just being in the damn thing rather than punching the accelerator and throwing myself into the back seat. It's a different kind of fun and an equal fun - and that was very surprising. Whereas before, cornering on the mountain roads out to the beach (NorCal girl here) was fun like a rollercoster, now the unpredictable nature of Bay Area commute traffic is super interesting - hit those brakes hard and dip and roll has a WHOLE new meaning, jeese THAT was fun the first time :). Anyway - our experiences may be different, but I don't miss my cars at all. Now, when retirement comes along, I get to keep the Jeep and buy a mid engine Corvette (provided I can haul my tired ass out of it).

^ Your part about driving in Bay Area traffic reminds of when I hear people here on Oahu complaining about traffic... *laugh* (Moved from Sacramento to Hawaii in 2018.) I just look at them and say, "You have noooooo idea, ha!"

Mahalo for the chuckle on this Aloha Friday,

yeah, see that’s the thing. The outdoor activities and capability. As far as driving, I drive a 2012 F-350 Econoline van lol. I’ve learned about the cornering and wind over the last 2 years so thankfully I have that covered!

Glad I’m not the only one who struggled with this! You sound like a lot of the reasons I’m even considering this! I’m afraid of other drivers, I’m afraid of scratching or denting it. I baby it, I love it but it can be a bit of a headache to worry that much.
