Any way to hook the homelink up so that it is powered by “acc” insstead of “run”?

Thank you OP, given my circumstances, this is exactly the mod I needed.

This is a great post as I like to have the garage door go up before I start my engine. I found that if I keep my foot off the brake pedal and push the start button twice it allows me to use the homelink button to open the garage door. Than just apply brake pressure and push the start button to start the engine.

I did this mod yesterday and it works great for the Homelink buttons, but also wired my Dash Cam into the red wire while doing this and found out it doesn't stay energized all the time, I'm going to have to land that wire somewhere else. It seems to de-energize about 30 minutes after shutting doors.

@MoparTH

Multiple forum member's that have done the mod say red wire is on constantly but........

One such post:
"Using their guides I tapped into the red wire and it’s on constantly. The dash has an internal power monitor so it turns off when it detects a voltage drop but otherwise is recording when the car is off."

My dash cam does have that feature that it cuts off parking mode under a certain voltage, it never has in my Tundra or Challenger. I'm going to wire it into a different feed tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the info, the wire may still be energized but has a voltage drop lower than what the dash cam likes.

Hello all. First post here with my 3 day old JL 2 door. I have the Sport S with technology and Safety packages but NO homelink buttons. I appear to have the homelink button wires (I think), but I am not sure where they end. I pulled the above door panel off as well as unfastened the above the windshield one as seen in the photo. As you can see, there are these wires directly above the mirror. Does anyone know what they are for and if they could be tapped into for a radar detector or camera?

Did this mod today, worked great! Thanks for the guidancr.

Quick question. I'm probably paranoid, but can't recall if this was the behavior before the mod.

When locking the Jeep with the fob key, is the center driver screen supposed to stay on with "press start" displayed for a period of time? Not sure if the wiring has changed the behavior . It eventually goes off but just worried about drain.

So if I do the mod as described, are the last few posts saying it will still lose power eventually? Can someone reply who did this more than a week ago? Thanks!

I know that I am different so no one needs to remind me.
But, I hate the fact that the ignition has to be on to operate the Homelink garage door opener.
Being that I will never park my Jeep right outside of my garage I rewired it to always be on.
Pretty simple and reversible 5 minute fix with the yellow wire military spliced into the red wire on the visor. You have to clip the yellow wire and attach the visor end to the red wire. This splice is reversible and very secure. Insulate the unsused yellow end and rewrap with tape.

The crazy part is many years ago I did just the opposite fix so no one could use the opener with the key off, for security reasons.

I park mine in the garage every night also but I like that feature. Ittoo easy for someone to grab the code just by pushing a button I don't even think it has to be near your garage but who knows but I like the safety feature and I don't think I'll mess with it

Trying to follow along, so for the home link dash cam wiring method...

does the yellow wire only start camera when car is on and it will it remain on as long as car is running?

and is the red constant even with car off? Or does red turn off after 30 mins?

thanks guys!

TazerJL now has the ability to use the garage door opener (as noted in the original post) as part of the recent update. Still one of the best add-ons yet.

I cant find the instructions to do this with tazer... can you please let us know how?

I was planning in doing this mod and using the yellow wire for my dashcam, its just not clear to me if the dashcam will work reliably and only with ignition on.
thanks

I'll update my post, as I was referring to the original post's reference to accessing the garage door opener. The TazerJL now allows the garage door opener to work after the car's unlocked and for a while after you turn off the ignition. It has several options to choose from.
