I modified the factory air box and ambient air duct that draws air behind the grille. It now routes air directly into the air box and it did lower the Air Intake Temp. I got the idea for this mod from my Challenger Scat Pack where I installed the Hellcat airbox and Hellcat airbox headlight air duct. That change alone dropped the AIT to 3 - 4 degrees above ambient stock was 8 - 10.
Jeep Results: Using the iOBD2 phone app driving 70 mph the factory airbox air intake temp is 7 - 8 degrees (not bad) above ambient after this mod it was 3 - 4 drees above ambient.
I drilled a 2 1/2" hole into the ambient air duct and air box. Weather strip seal is put inside the ambient air duct on the trailing edge of the hole to divert incoming air into the air box instead of flowing thru the duct.
The bottom of the air box has weather strip around the hole where it's located above the ambient air duct.
The air intake temp now is only 3 degrees above ambient after the air box mod.
