Agreed. One of the few situations where I'd recommend deleting the Aux. Just a single battery to pull and hook to a charger.

@Mdmorrissey Another possibility. Do you have the option to park in the sun? Roof level maybe? Or in a space that gets partial or reflected sun from a window? If so, get a Cascadia 4x4 hood solar panel and park in or near the sun when you're away. It does not require direct sun to work as a low watt trickle charger. That will counteract your battery issues.
The Florida sun will destroy the paint if left outside too much.

I have been parked in my garage nose in and if it's a sunny day I found the panel charging my battery while the hood is open. No direct sunlight on the panel. It's only a light float charge, but that's all you need to top off batteries when parked.

Florida is at sea level. Direct sunlight is about as weak as it gets there.

I disconnected my aux battery 2 years ago and no problem running without it. I didn't pull fuses, add jumpers or anything else. The only downside is that I have a warning light on the dash all the time.
I also replaced the original main battery with what I think is the highest quality battery you can buy, I bought it from Batteries+.

I hear you-but I see the sun inflicted damage everyday-so much for the sea level theory....

I am at my wits end with my 2019 JLU Rubicon battery and hoping that somebody here can give me some answers. The background story: I live in a condo complex in S. Florida and am here only part time (I can be gone for a few months at a time). The parking garage does not have any electrical outlets, so when I am gone, I am not able to use a battery tender. What I have done (from advice that I found on the internet, as well as asking my dealership) is to remove the positive and negative terminals from the main battery of the Jeep. Included with the negative terminal, I remove the secondary cable from the negative terminal (which I believe goes to the secondary battery). I am attaching a photo of the disconnected cables to explain what it is I am doing.

The problem is that the secondary battery continues to drain(?) while I am gone, so that when I come back, it is dead or dying. I was just gone for about 2 months after having had the battery replaced, and guess what - it is dead!!! I have had that secondary battery replaced 3 or 4 times now (I lost count) since having bought the Jeep in 2019. Since it is buried under the main battery, I have to take it to the dealership to have it replaced, which is both time consuming and expensive.

Can anyone give me suggestions on what might be going on and/or how to manage this problem while I am gone. Again, buying a battery tender is not an option and I am sick and tired of having to replace the back up battery. If I can't figure something out, I am afraid that I am going to have to sell the Jeep and get something more simple, which I don't want to do.
Do ever notice that the dash and radio are lit up even though the vehicle is locked and off, and you've not even touched the door?

My 2019 JLU MOAB had been at the dealership since 1-Sept-2023. The issue was that I was draining batteries every 3 to 4 weeks. The batteries would drain even though i drove my jeep daily.

The fix ended up being to replace the Sleeve Valve (PN - 52854755AB). It was causing my radio and dash to light up and then turn off over and over even though the motor was off and the jeep was locked. This constant on/off cycle drained and killed my main battery and then eventually the aux battery.

If you are suffering a similar issue of having to constantly replace your batteries you may want to have your Sleeve Valve (PN - 52854755AB) checked. It may need to be replaced.
The dealership only found it after a lot of trial and error.

I hope this information helps someone.

The OEM main battery on my '18 Rubicon was an East Penn . Both the NAPA and the O'Reilly's replacement batteries the I looked at were also manufactured by East Penn.

I don't recall the OEM manufacturer of the aux. battery.
You can always go with a Dakota battery or another manufacture of high end batteries for the aux battery of get a high end battery for the main that will self monitor and shut down at a certain voltage allowing you to press a button and fire up your Jeep
Or better yet just disable the aux battery
There are a lot of battery options out there, I cant imagine what you must have paid the dealer to replace the battery that many times

One other thing I just thought about and don't know if it was mentioned
Get a battery jump box and keep it in the house and take it out to the Jeep when needed

Did this dealer happen to explain to you how a valve in the transmission was turning on your radio etc?

Hi Guys,

Been reading the site for a while, decided to join due to battery issues on my 2024 JLU.

Anyway first in answer to @garykk above that reminds me of something similar happened to my '91 XJ. The air conditioner fuse blew in the worst heat of a Texas summer. It happened only when we shifted into drive. Before starting out, the A/C worked fine. It stayed on in reverse but as soon as I got out of the driveway and shifted to D the fuse blew.

We brought it to a Jeep dealer and after a couple of days they couldn't fix it. Then we brought it to a local auto electrical shop. They also had it for a long time but at least gave us a loaner car.

Apparently there was some electrical connection between the transmission circuit and the A/C circuit. So yeah, crazy as it seems the thing about the sleeve valve could be real.

Update: looks like there is no problem for me, vehicle starts normally after being used. Does not like sitting there alone :D

Even with batteries disconnected . Lead acid, maint free bateries
will self discharge a few percent over time.no stopping it.
aside from removing battery and put on battery tenter.or solar charger
jump box seems like best option.

reguardless of auto make. Disconnected unused battery will self discharge without means of trickle charge battery maintainer.
