In the last week I have had my windshield replaced. After replacement, a whistling starts at around 35MPH, by the rearview mirror.

So, I had Safelite come back out. A much more experienced tech pulled the glass, meticulously cleaned everything and reapplied the adhesive. He said it’s very easy to install Wrangler windshields, very hard to mess up.

I waited the required time and took it for a test drive. IT STILL WHISTLES! The Safelite tech says it must be something else - even though it started upon replacement. One thing I noticed, when it was initially replaced, was that the trim around the mirror was a little loose, a few small gaps.

I checked my SOT. It continues to whistle even with it open.

I am desperate for ideas, as I have to drive back to SW FL from Phoenix this weekend. Thanks in advance!

Great ideas, gents! I will do that today in a bit. Don’t know if I can access the bolts, as it has the SOT header, but I will try.

I wonder if the replacement is thinner. Also give the wipers a once over that everything is normal there.

If none of this works, just turn up the radio, it’s why Jeep put in the Alpine….. for this very reason….🤣

Jeff,
Have a look at those areas that you might not be inclined to look at. Said differently, don't presume that the windscreen replacement was the proximate cause of the whistle. That event may be coincidental (i.e., unrelated) to the whistle starting to occur.

By way of example, I too had a whistling sound spontaneously occur some months ago. My Jeep retains the original glass at this time, but nonetheless I started the troubleshooting process by checking the snugness of the bolts along the top of the front header rail. All good.

After a bit more searching, the source of the sound was determined to be a bit of misshapen weatherstripping on the driver's door. I'm sure how it got that way, but after faffing with it to restore the proper shape and sealing, the noise went away.

That came to mind because the doors on your Jeep would've had to be opened, and with the tech working in close proximity to them, when they were installing the new glass...twice, now. Maybe something in that area got bumped and/or shifted out of place.

Just a thought. :)

I’m at Safelite now. After I examined the molding around the glass, I found gaps as you can see in the photo. The manager is certain that’s the cause; he’s resetting the glass now. We shall see!

Safelite replaced a windshield on our old JK. It had an air leak and whistled at speed. Took it back, they supposedly reset it, yet the issue persisted. This was OE glass that we paid extra for, too. I don't think we've ever had a great experience with Safelite that I can recall. A lot of their installers just do crappy work; not sure if they don't pay them enough, or what.

We ignored the issue for a while and then the windshield was damaged and had to be replaced again. We took it to a local, independent auto glass shop (NOT Safelite) and had them put in another OE windshield. It was perfect and silent.

Lesson learned: Don't take it to Safelite if you want it repaired or replaced right on the first try.

My insurance company only uses Safelite. I hope I don't have to make a claim.

if you used insurance claim for the windshield replacement , you can reject it , and ask the insurance company for an OEM, safelite is banned from my shop, they do not know S%%$T

Also, check to see if there are any slight bend around the windshield base itself the metal , from the inside, check all corners , get a can of compressed air and have someone shoot some small amount of air and check for any noise, i also believe the TAR/glue they used is not thick enough/applied enough to factory specs maybe , so if you look at the windshield and the glass from a side angle on an OEM, its is 99% flush across the whole plane, just my 2 cents here , good luck

i replied to you first post, regarding the issue, this is why they are banned from my shop! Period, they have zero experience ! Zero knowledge, they follow a virtual guideline when being hired, and fancy tools that do not work.

Folks, thank you for all of your input! A manager at Safelite fixed it; he installed new glass, and got the molding right. Zero whistle now.

This is my first tIme using Safelite in AZ, as I live in Florida. It should not take THREE ATTEMPTS to get a correct install!!! However, back in FL in Sarasota County, I have had Safelite install about five windshields since about 2017. All of those installs were flawless!!!

I laughed internally when I saw the award in the Surprise, AZ Safelite facility I went to today - they have an award for the “best” Safelite in the Phoenix metro area. Yeah, right…

In my Jk I was winching my self out once, and at some point during the process I heard a distinct crack, not super loud but loud enough to hear. I couldn't tell where it came from so I didn't really think anything of it. Immediately after that there was a whistle starting at about 30-35 mph. It was annoying but as Roky suggested I just turned up the radio.

I kind of thought the whistling was from the windshield seal, but I couldn't tell where. A few months after the whistling started I got a crack in my windshield. But as I normally do with a cracked windshield I procrastinated getting it fixed. Finally after about 18 months my wife bugged me enough to get the windshield replaced becasue of the crack. After replacing the windshield the whistling was gone.

I always thought it was weird that winching myself out tweaked the Jeep enough to break the seal of the windshield.
