Help! Noise from inside tailgate area

Hello! I have a 2020 Jeep Wrangler JLU Altitude and having some stiff like noise coming from the inside tailgate area. I took it to dealership and they said it was the tailgate gate that needed to be adjusted. Picked up jeep no noise for about a week then noise returned. It's loud and when you sit in back sit while truck is in motion you can hear it very loud. It seems like the bar across tailgate inside is the noise, it's like across between stiff, squeaky, rubbing noise. Has anyone else experience this? What can be done to correct?

I do have a 3.5 lift w/ 35's 20 (teraflex lift kit with fox shocks & stabilizer) but the original tire is on tailgate with no modifications to it. I noticed the noise prior to the lift but thought it was my door because of how loud the noise traveled to front of truck.

Yes, this sounds like a common problem . the issue is coming from the rubber seal that is on the bottom of the window. some people have fixed it by greasing that seal, or wax, or anti squeak tape across the tailgate itself. I fixed mine by adding black rubber door edge molding to the top of the tailgate.

20” wheels are quite heavy, before even adding the 35” tires. My guess is the combined weight of your spare is well in excess of 100 lbs. The tailgate is rated to carry up to 85 lbs in stock form.

You may want to consider reinforcing that tailgate to be able to support all that added weight.

I've had success using 303 protectant and regularly using on the entire rubber window trim in back.

It means exactly that. Reinforcing the tailgate to support the weight of heavier wheels and tires.

Well, if you still have the stock spare on, I doubt the tailgate needs reinforcing.

Well, if you still have the stock spare on, I doubt the tailgate needs reinforcing.

Just heard this kind of noise last weekend, first I adjusted the tailgate striker to the front of jeep a little bit, but that only helped for about a day, and the noise came back after driving on bumpy road. Then I applied vacuum grease on the rear window rubber seal (that contacts top edge of rear door), the noise totally disappeared. I think it's too early to draw the conclusion but it's very likely the rubber seal making such noise. Other member suggests using 3M squeak reducing teflon tape on top edge of the rear door, will give it a try later.

What will you do if you have a flat tire? The spare should be very close in size to the tire it is replacing on the axle. Just something to consider.
