For sure more info. Needed. OP states empty, but it's a dip stick. So you saw no fluid on the dip stick? This doesn't mean it's empty.

How much did it take to fill it up?

Then checked again, and it's empty again. So again same question, and how much did it take to fill the second time? Now where is it at? Low again, completely empty, like you look with a flashlight and it's bone dry at the bottom?

It is possible it was low, and when filled the first time it circulated through the system and then showed low or below the dip stick again.

I can't remember if that system has a reservoir for overflow?

I get it's a closed system and in theory it should not loose any.

My question is if you drive it everyday what is it doing, overheating? ICE engines will not run on water and you will know it quickly. Sputtering, white smoke out the tail pipe, within min.s it will get too hot and have catastrophic failure. If it's not doing any of this then you have a 2.0 like some of us that uses a little coolant.

For some that posted here trying to help this is a known issue with some 2.0 engines and to my knowledge I haven't seen or heard what the cause is. Also I believe some loose more coolant than others.

I check mine about every 5 to 6 months and it's about 4 to 6 fluid ounces low. Don't know where it goes. My engine runs perfect.

Hopefully the shop can figure it out because I haven't seen where anyone has yet, this includes any dealerships or other shops.

For me right now it's a minor issue. I keep an eye on things and add a little coolant if needed.
In 2 days I've used about a half gallon. No white smoke, oil is fine, no warning signals. The used car dealership garage could not complete a pressure test because i don't think he knew what he was doing. From what I read pressure checker should be installed on radiator. He attempted to connect it to the coolant reservoir. I might bite the bullet and take it to my own mechanic cause I'm freaking out. Or waste more time bringing it to dealer to lemon law it. I feel like I've just made a painfully expensive mistake

Yes it has an overflow tank

Pressure tester would be connected to plastic reservoir, no radiator cap. You bought it used - correct? No lemon law probably. How long have you owned it? Might be able to return it, check state law. Go to a Jeep dealer and see if it is still under warranty.

Do you smell that unique smell of burning antifreeze when you exit the vehicle after driving? Have you tried putting the heat to max. temperture to rule out the heater core?

I bought it used 2 weeks ago. It's under warranty but the dealer is being evasive now.

No antifreeze smell. What does putting heat to the max accomplish? Forgive my ignorance

So, you're talking shit but have no idea what you're talking about. The ONLY way to pressure test the system is from the reservoir. Who do you think knows better, the guy who has been doing this for decades, or you?

The guy who could not complete the pressure test? Then told me it's the coolant reservoir cap to save face? I waited three hours to accomplish nothing. I admit my ignorance I'm trying to learn.

If it’s under warranty and using a gallon of coolant in a short time, demand the dealer fix it or go to State’s agency that deals with automotive warranties and complain. You have a problem here, most likely from your description, a blow head gasket.

Forces the coolant through the heater core before it returns to the radiator. It helps troubleshoot and isolate the problem.
It doesn't do that at all, there is no heater water shutoff, flow through the heater core is constant.

There is zero evidence of a blown head gasket.

I can tell you exactly what happened. He hooked up the coolant pressure tester, pumped it up to 20 psi, and checked for leaks. Nothing leaked. You kept bugging him and he wanted you gone. No leak found, the cap is not testable. Replace the cap if desired.
