In the last few months Ive been using the motorcycle to commute and only occasionally drive the JL. The last few times I thought I smelled coolant during cold start, and noticed its not running on 6 cyls for the first 5-10 seconds. The last 2 times I cold started it, it ran on 5 cyls long enough to put the CEL on and set a misfire code., the smell of coolant is now strong for the first 20-30 secs on cold starts. almost 50k miles and only 5 months of powertrain warr left.

I've only had to add a few ounces of coolant and it never over heats or indicates any cooling issues. Can't see evidence of leaks under the hood or the floor. I did have a radiator replaced under warr a while back, but it never overheated with that small leak, nor went low on coolant.

Really worried the dealer will try to blame my lift kit, or 37's etc and try to avoid doing the repair under warranty.

dropping it off tonight at the dealer.... thought these motors were fairly bullet proof if treated well.....

It's more common than it should be. This happened to my wife's 18 Sahara with 43k miles. Cylinder 4 misfire. I didn't notice a smell but coolant was a bit low. No issues with the dealer regarding her 2" lift. They even replaced a leaking axle seal inder warranty. Took about a week. I did have to pay about $400 to remove and install RSE steps. I didn't know they have pull the body to replace the engine.

to deny a warranty, the after-market parts have to be related to the system that failed. a lift kit isn't going to blow a head gasket.

Lift kit and tires increased the engine load past oem parameters. Especially if not regeared.... Would be my argument.

They tried to say my lift caused the wiring harness in my dash to fail. End of the day it was covered but I still had to waste time fighting with them and the stress.

Yep, 37’s and the additional load from them, causing the engine coolant temperatures to rise. This is all going to depend on, is this Dealer mod friendly, or not.

I regeared a long time ago, and I drive like a little old lady most of the time... always allow it to warm up before driving.. I definitely don't abuse my vehicles, so I am quite surprised. I got a $680 estimate to diagnose too...

Don't believe that. The dealer can deny working on your Jeep for any reason, NOTE I did NOT say deny warranty. How do I know? Denied engine work on my Jeep due to Tube fenders!!! So said I want to meet with the Zone Mgr and I did and It was shown to me that they can deny working on vehicle for any or no reason. I had a helluva of time getting my transmission fixed on a RECALL. "We don't have a transmission man who has been trained on your transmission"

"We are booked up on transmission work for the next 3 mo at least and since you did not buy it here we cannot put you at the head of the line"

My buddy had a 6 in lift on his Jeep and sitting on 40's. I went with him to have some under the hood work done on his new Jeep. He it dropped it and we were driving to a breakfast joint when he got a call. "cannot work on your Jeep, the mechanic is a short guy and he cannot get to the engine bay due to your lift"

As you can see, warranty never denied. In fact when I met with the Zone Mgr he told me straight up the dealer has the right to not work on a vehicle for any reason.

JUST OVER 50K MILES, THE COLD START MISS HAS CONTINUED, AND THE FAINT SMELL OF COOLANT RESTARTED, ONLY AT COLD START.... FINALLY USING COOLANT NOW. THINK I AM OVER THE WARRANTY TIME LIMIT, BUT UNDER THE MILEAGE LIMIT.

THIS WAS REPORTED AND "COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED" WHEN AT THE DEALER.. HOPEFULLY JEEP WILL OWN THIS PROBLEM

Man your dealer sucks, this is extremely easy to diagnose. Pressurize the cooling system for about a half hour and pull the spark plug on the misfiring cylinder. Borescope the hole, confirm coolant present. Order warranty engine.

Called the dealer, the service writer who assured me that since it was on record already, I'd have no worries later even if warranty expires, is no longer there. the current service writer said it's out of warranty and offered nothing else to try to help.

I then called Jeep Cares and started a case. dropping it off for verification next Tuesday. I hope the dealer does exactly as described and pressure tests the cooling system over night and looks in the cylinder for coolant. I asked how these cases usually turn out, she said the case manager will usually base the decision the dealer report and the mileage.

If Jeep doesn't cover this, the Rubicon is gone, and I will be heading straight to the Bronco club.... first and last FCA vehicle. And I was recently browsing the new Rubicon as a very near purchase.

Fingers crossed!

Me thinks there's collusion going on with Stellantis and dealers to deny warranty claims.
