Hey, could 5.13 slow down my Willys 4Lo, as slow as a stock Rubicon?
The Rubicon transfer case makes a huge difference in crawling. A non-Rubicon without the 4:1 will take a lot of deeper gearing to crawl as slowly. And then you're turning really high RPMs on the highway.

4.88s are "good enough" for a 3.6 auto with 37s. 5.13s are better. But if you're after serious crawling, you'll want a Rubicon transfer case or something like an Atlas.

I don't do seriously crawling. Hey, can you please watch this and tell me if it is good. It is steep, camera doesn't tell.

Which stock rubicon is the question? The early TJ rubicons with the auto only had a 46.9-1 crawl ratio. Your Jeep already has a 62.6-1 crawl ratio. You're already as low geared as a TJ Rubicon with 5.5-1 axle gears, which don't exist. Nobody ever argued the TJ Rubicon needed more than the lowest available 5.13s. Jump to the JL and everyone forgets just how low geared they all are by comparison. Everyone needs 80+-1 with an auto now even though nobody did just 8 years ago? Because you get 77-1 from the stock rubicon everyone needs more than that? You weren't getting a JK auto there unless you were running dual transfer cases and very few did. It just isn't necessary with an auto in my opinion. You'd need 6-1 axle gears to get there so if you really want Rubicon crawl ratio you'll want to do the transfer case. I've found when you push toward 100-1 it starts wanting to push through the brakes. When we geared our 2019 to 5.38s 1st gear became nearly useless in 4Lo. Crawled most stuff in 2nd gear or higher on 38s.

Re-geared my 2021 3.6 MT Willys from the stock 3.45's to 4.56. Love the difference it made.

I regeared last week and love how it drives now on the pavement. Cant wait until this weekend where i can feel the offroad difference at Windrock. I do alot of trails in my 2024 JLUR 6MT and ive never really had any problems on obstacles before but now i assume it'll just be easier to climb rocks in higher gears lol. I understand im at 100:1 crawl ratio in the manual? It'll damn near climb a wall without needing much gas. I just wish the clutch wasn't so light. If this one ever gives me trouble ill probably look at ACT.

If you have a Rubicon and coming from 4.10 gear to 4.88, you go from 84 crawl ratio to 100. It would be a slight improvement. Probably wont blow you away.

84:1 from the factory was already very respectful. I went from 68 to 100 and that was a big difference.

Luckily, my Rubicon X (315/70/17) came with 4.56 from the factory or I would have. I hear you can order 37s with 4.88 but definitely not when I bought mine.

Its the manual though. I thought the manual had better crawl ratio than auto?

I was able to order 4.88s when i ordered mine but couldnt get bigger tires. Thought that was dumb. I wish I checked the 4.88 box now would've saved me sone money. Live and learn.

Yes.

6MT first gear is 5.13 x transfer case 4 x factory final drive 4.10 = 84. 4.88 final drive puts you at 100.

I went from the sport 5.13x2.72x3.45 to 5.13x2.72x4.88, and then swapped the Tcase to 5.13x4x4.88.

Yes, good point, I could have ordered 4.88 but not the 37s. I did not think far enough ahead. So then when I saw one locally just like I wanted to order (except the 4.88) I grabbed it.

Looks fine to me. You didn't seem to be rushed and you were able to get up and over without a lot of throttle.

You can get 37s through something like AEV, but I'm pretty sure the max from the factory is still 35s.
