Has anyone installed the Mopar Trailer Brake Controller?

When you push the knob to activate the manual brake option do you get warning lights on the dash?

I have read 2 different threads about the OEM controller. I have seen a Jeep memo about 2018s having issues, and others fixing issues with a 2073-p harness.
I have a 2018 JLU Sahara with the tow package. I wamt to install the OEM controller. Has anyone installed it in a 2018, and does the 2073-P harness fix the issue ? Also, do any wires need to be swapped ?

Im not as familiar with the 2018, the co triller says 2019 and up for some reason. With the 3073-P, the issue is fixed. No wires need to be swapped, itā€™s 100% plug and play.

No matter what... here's the deal.
There is only 4 wires. Blue, black, red and white. You can swap the blue and black all day long, but the red has power and the white is a ground.
You swap those and there's going to be smoke.

Dunno how your controller is wired but, on the one I have, it didn't work.

Don't know what to tell you.

You said the 3024 pin out doesnā€™t match the OEM harness. The 3073-P does match the OEM harness with the Mopar controller, I verified it with a multimeter. Itā€™s a direct swap for the OEM harness and has the diode to fix the issue.

I said 2073 when I meant 3073-P. But this does not specifically say if this works on the 2018 or not with the OEM controller.

I was referring to Plongsonā€™s earlier post not yours. I donā€™t see any reason that harness wonā€™t work on the 2018.

Do you still have a record of the pinout for your connector that worked? I copied down both the OEM and the 3024 pinout for my record, and would like to review the difference. I can also provide my findings. Maybe between us we can figure this out...

I donā€™t but could probably pull the cable if need be. I used a multimeter and the OEM and 3073-P match pin for pin. The OEM harness uses strange colors for the wires, whereas the 3073-P uses standard color. Even though the colors donā€™t match, the pins match (aka pin 1 goes to the same pin on the connector that plugs into the truck). The 3073-P definitely works, I have it installed in my truck right now.

Tomorrow I will transcribe my notes on the pinout and post them. Only thing I can figure is my controller is wired different causing my OEM pigtail to be different.

I'll post tomorrow...

Ok, Here's the record of the pinout of the OEM controller connector and the Tekonsha 3024 connector. I think this is a easy way to illustrate the differences. As you can see, you cannot simply swap out the blue and black...the white (ground) is on a different pin on the 3024. Throwing power to a dedicated ground terminal is not a good idea and not something I'm gonna experiment with on my Jeep potentially smoking a $300 brake controller.

I don't know where my controller is different from the others but there is not much I can do about it at this point. The override works, it just throws and error but resets on the next restart...

The problem here, and I donā€™t know why they did this, but the OEM harness does not use the standard colors in the standard locations. Because of this, you canā€™t simply compare the colors as they wonā€™t appear to match up. You have to use a multimeter and verify that pin A on the controller end goes to the same pin on the truck plug end, same for pins B, C, D.

My OEM harness has the same color pin assignments as yours does. l match on the bottom 2 pins, but on the top they are opposite of yours. I would double check and make sure you have the colors right on those. My 3073-P and factory have the following:

As you can see 3 of the wire colors donā€™t match, no idea why they did that. However, the important part is the pin out matches which means it will work. Iā€™m not sure about the 3024, youā€™d have to double check it. It looks like itā€™s a Ram harness, so they Blue and black are probably backwards.

The bottom line is the 3073-P pin out matches the OEM harness, and is a 100% plug and play solution with the diode to fix the issue. It has been tested to work by multiple people and should be what people with pre 2020 build trucks use if they want a fix until Mopar develops one.

Oh MAN!! Talk about a circle jerk...lol

After paying homage to the patron saint of trailer brake controls...and sweating some bullets...IT WORKS PERFECT!

With the AMAZING feedback from JWILSON, I went back and worked on the 3024 with the diode, putting it back according to the original Tekonsha pinout BUT with the blue and black swapped. Apparently this is the SAME pinout as JWILSON's 3073-P plug'n-play.

Lemm'e tell you, swapping an (apparent) white ground lead with an (apparent) red hot lead is NOT something I would recommend to ANYONE, but in this case, whoever designed these looms must'a been on drugs. I really wish I had the full schematic to see how it's designed.

Bottom line...Tekonsha 3024 (that has the diode), swap the blue and black and your OEM Mopar brake controller will work and not throw codes. Don't overthink the rest of the pinout, just install it.

And a HUGE thanks goes out to JWILSON2899 for his willingness to persevere on this issue and convince an old hand that it would work. THANK YOU!! I'm VERY grateful for your help!

Thatā€™s awesome! Glad to hear you have it going. For anyone else looking, the 3073-P I have requires no swapping of pins, itā€™s plug and play. If you get the 3024-P, swap the blue and black.
