Has anyone installed the Mopar Trailer Brake Controller?

When you push the knob to activate the manual brake option do you get warning lights on the dash?

I think all that was addressed in that thread (here on the forum) that I lost. All this is so unnecessary if Mopar would have done their job...

I hate to keep bitching but this dang controller should have been installed from the factory just like in the line of pickups.

I'll look for that thread and post the link here if I find it...hopefully someone else will find it too. There was a ton of information...

Just sent in a note to Jeep Cares about the error code "Service Electronic Stability Control"...lets see how they reply.

I'm betting the OEM harness needs a diode but WHY would these idiots release a controller that obviously does not work properly, it's just beyond be. I intentionally waited for the release of the Mopar controller just because I didn't want to be jacking around with wires and diodes. Really pisses me off.

Additionally, this frigg'n controller should have been installed from the factory along with the tow package and not after the fact. The entire project is not for the shade tree mechanic or some poor sap dicking around in the garage drinking beer. Installation is no joke. Working with a shop light and a mirror under that dash most of the time and shoe horning myself under there to cut wire ties and mount the control was one of the most miserable jobs I've tackled for some time.

If I had to do it over I'd have the dealer do the install and then get on there ass when it threw the error code. Now I'm gonna have to deal with it.

On a lighter note, I was able to move the 12v auxiliary port. After serious planing, I really found only one place that works (at least for me). Attached is a photo.

So there you have it, If you plan on installing this controller yourself, be ready to go to battle.

Did you have to extend the 12 volt wires to relicate the 12v receptacle?

No, The placement did not require extending the loom for the 12v aux plug. My wife REALLY like this location because it is up and out of the way...she isn't hitting her knee on it and is actually a better spot than the OEM where the trailer control now resides.

Be cautious before drilling the hole though, there is a steel part of the dash reinforcement very close. It fits perfect but careful placement is required...A unibit works great FYI...

Thanks, I am getting the dealership to do the whole thing so the problem with the controller can be logged and the relocation is to be perfect. I heard about that plate so I will let them know.

I'm fine with adding a diode if I knew what one and which wire.

This is the one I will be using. Let me know if there are any negatives about the product?

The harness you want with the Mopar controller is the Tekonsha 3073-P. I got mine at O’Reillys, but Amazon has it too. This harness is 100% plug and play with Mopar controller and has the diode in it. I added it to mine and it fixed all the errors.

Well, here's a FYI...I bought the OEM Mopar controller 8221-5652-AB and installed it (PITA)...it does not have a diode and it immediately threw errors on the dash when the over-ride is pushed...trailer hooked up or not. Foot off the brake, push the button....error

I then bought the Tekonsha 3024 recommended here with the diode...here's the lowdown. It does NOT work. The pinout is totally wrong to match up with the OEM 8221-5652-AB controller. Swapping the blue and black is the least of the problem. The Tekonsha pinout is totally wacked out. If all you do is swap the black and blue, the pinout has white (ground) going to black (hot)…no, I'm not going there.

I re-pinned the 3024 to factory pin-out, and the red lead had the diode...still did not work. The controller did not power up but threw errors pushing the over-ride button. I reversed the diode and got nothing...did not power up but did not throw an error (unit was essentially off).

I ended up just re-installing the factory harness and I'm gonna run by the dealer to put it on record and see what they have to say. There is obviously more at play here than what we're seeing...

In the meantime, The controller works fabulous, probably better than any controller I've ever had. VERY smooth in the application. I really like it, but if I use the over-ride, the trailer brakes actuate just fine but throws an error that reset on the next start-up.

Uh oh. Glad you posted this. I bought the above mentioned harness but haven't received it yet. Guess I'll be sending it back. Sure hope a fix is in the works soon. Thanks for the info.

The Tekonsha harness should be 3073-P as referenced earlier, not 3024. Would you please vote in the poll and post your build date and options?

Thanks!

Wow, and I just cancelled my order for the 3073-P. Guess I'll just wait until someone gets this right.

I have the RedArc installed on my JLUR build date 11-19. Installed with the 3073-P harness. Same issues with the manual button setting off codes/lights. Have many miles on it towing #3500 off-road trailer. Works great while towing. Manual mode works while towing, however the traction control light comes on.

This was the reason I went with Mopar. Let the manufacturer of the vehicle and part deal with it. I have no idea what the RedArc company would do, but I would find out. Good luck...

If you bought the 3073-P you will be fine. I have installed it in mine it works Perfectly. No idea what the 3024 is.

3024 is not the harness you want. 3073-P is what you want. I have installed on mine and it works perfect.

Did you cut the Tekonsha end off of the harness and attach the Redarc harness to it? If so I bet you cut out the part with the diode that stops that from happening. I have the 3073-P and it fixed the issues I was having with the traction control light.

An even better option for Redarc is the TPH-020 harness. It’s for a Ram, so you have the swap the blue and black wires on it, but it will plug directly into the Jeep and the Redarc and has the diode in it like the Tekonsha harness. I ran it on my truck until I swapped over to the Mopar controller and it worked perfectly as well.
