Has anyone installed the Mopar Trailer Brake Controller?

When you push the knob to activate the manual brake option do you get warning lights on the dash?

I got the new controller which I believe was just recently produced and I'm installing myself (PITA I might add..) But I have an odd question about the push button, it does not push...it's essentially solid. I was expecting a button that travels in and out like a...pushbutton.

It's not fully installed yet so I wonder if the controller has to be powered up for the button to work.

What are you guys seeing?

the push part is internal to the switch box. Once you install everything together, the button will push inside the knob

How many people installed the Mopar Brake Controller and it's working perfectly?

So if I want to be impatient and not wait on mopar to come to a solution is the easier fix to just buy an aftermarket cable with the diode and fix the issue myself with the mopar controller or are their other issues I need to be aware about. Trying to follow the multiple threads on this but I’m getting a little lost in the minutia of this.

It was confirmed on the Gladiator forum that ordering a harness with the diode will prevent the warning lights, one would hope that the functions the warning lights pertain to still function as designed but use at your own risk.

I returned my controller and will be waiting for an official fix from Jeep/Mopar.

Has anyone that installed the controller in a Wrangler found the location for the box under the dash impossible?? I'm really struggling with the location listed in the (Really poor) instructions. The existing holes don't match up with the controller plate. Where are you mounting the plate?? I'm missing something here...

If the button isn't lined up correctly ( not like the directions state), it won't push in or fully install. Check the tabs on the back of the button and line them up by eye. Then it goes right in and presses fine.

It will fit in the correct location IF the box is mounted on the plate correctly from the manufacture. Mine wasn't the pic in the directions is correct. The upper bolt hole has a harness clip in it. That has to be removed. It is a PITA.

Well, I got it installed... WHEW!! What a PITA, Lots of work But here's the deal.

The Jeep built 03/20 and the controller packaged 09/11/20...the controller works fine BUT, hit the manual brake override and it throws an error "Service Electronic Stability Control". No Christmas Tree of lights on the dash, just a error and everything seems to work. Do a re-start and the code clears.

Guess Mopar still has bugs in the OEM controller. Not sure what I'll do, probably see the dealer.

Sorry to hear that you are having the same issue as others, it would be best to visit the dealer and had them open a case with Jeep. The more reports the better.

Would you please post with your options and add to the poll?

Just sent in a note to Jeep Cares about the error code "Service Electronic Stability Control"...lets see how they reply.

I'm betting the OEM harness needs a diode but WHY would these idiots release a controller that obviously does not work properly, it's just beyond be. I intentionally waited for the release of the Mopar controller just because I didn't want to be jacking around with wires and diodes. Really pisses me off.

Additionally, this frigg'n controller should have been installed from the factory along with the tow package and not after the fact. The entire project is not for the shade tree mechanic or some poor sap dicking around in the garage drinking beer. Installation is no joke. Working with a shop light and a mirror under that dash most of the time and shoe horning myself under there to cut wire ties and mount the control was one of the most miserable jobs I've tackled for some time.

If I had to do it over I'd have the dealer do the install and then get on there ass when it threw the error code. Now I'm gonna have to deal with it.

On a lighter note, I was able to move the 12v auxiliary port. After serious planing, I really found only one place that works (at least for me). Attached is a photo.

So there you have it, If you plan on installing this controller yourself, be ready to go to battle.

Nice job. Quite the PITA and I'm an auto tech. I was going to do that location for the power outlet but I have added a large harness through that spot for the one touch up window module I added.

I had the link bookmarked to the post here about swapping wires and adding the diode to the harness of aftermarket controllers...but I lost it (deleted it somehow).

Ya probably know which one I mean, anyone got that link??

I'm wondering about modifying this frigg'n OEM harness to get it to work and get rid of the current backfeed.

I'd rather be beat with a rubber hose than deal with a dealer service department, though I probably will for the short term.

What the feeling here on working with this harness???

I'm fine with adding a diode if I knew what one and which wire.
