Hard top wind noise

Just got my Jeep back from the dealer for excessive wind noise. It only happens above 78 or 79 AND with a crosswind.

Dealer told me they can't drive it that fast legally anywhere around here (DFW) and that wind noise is to be expected going that fast.

Here is the noise I'm talking about. This is not normal wind noise. It sounds like a bearing burning up in a bathroom exhaust fan.

I haven't read the whole thread so if someone offered this suggestion already I'm sorry. But can you try to plug the drain hole on the top of the window frame? Plug it firmly but make sure you can pull the plug out after obviously. You could probably just put some duct tape over it Then go for a ride . See if it helps.

My theory is that the vent where the water drains is missing, backwards or something.. I hope you can try my idea soon, I'm really curious if it helps.

I actually get a cracking noise on the driver side hardtop panel. It's faint but enough to trigger lè microaggresions.

Unfortunately Jeep has no real incentive to greatly improve QC over past wranglers. They will sell as many as they can produce. They have no competition. I guess that’s another “jeep thing”. Maybe the new Bronco will be a wake up call for jeep ONLY if it steals market share.

Live in Ohio and have family working at the Toledo Jeep Plant (where the JLUs are assembled). I am constantly cautioned by them that in their experience they would not buy one due to quality. I always respond by telling them to work harder but that does not tend to go over well.

Yea, but is anyone shocked? I'm not. It's obvious these things aren't exactly luxury machines or built to be titans of road safety. They cost so much because of their off-road capability and open-air driving, not because of outstanding build quality.

Not really shocked, but all the Jeeps across the lineup are not very well built. Build them better and stronger and stop spending so much on all this tech and nanny systems.

True but if the build quality isn't up to snuff, then the off-road capability my suffer when you're out crawling...

I have a feeling lots of plant workers for the various brands would say the same thing. Once you get a peek behind the curtain, and you see what all of the panels look like on the underside, how the leather ends on stitched interior panels, etc... It probably is the same across the board.

Yea, you're right, build quality definitely needs to be good for that. It's weird, though. I have friends who say they've had to put 10-12 grand into their Jeeps from off roading mishaps (mostly to the under body) and others who say they've never had any major issues after off roading.

And the nanny systems I DEFINITELY agree with. That stuff freaks me out, to be honest. I don't want my car trying to tell me where my lane is or suddenly stopping on me because it thinks it sees something in front of me. What happens in terrible weather? What happens if loss of life could have been averted by NOT stopping (I know sounds crazy but there are many situations like this) suddenly on highway. What about that most recent Tesla crash that happened yet again when the autopilot mode was engaged? Sure, anyone can say that way more crashes happen with manned vehicles than unmanned, but you also have to look at the ratio of autonomous cars on the road to normal cars. People are too trusting of these systems, and it's scary. What happened to being a good driver?

Big reason why I went with the lower trim, actually. None of that nanny stuff, just the backup camera (still a crutch, but at least an unobtrusive one that isn't going to seize control of my car from me).

That's hilarious! But then again, they're owned by Fiat which is usually rated at the very bottom of the industry in terms of initial quality.

It sounds as if Wind Noise is across the board...but that's across the board with all Wranglers.
What doesn't seem to be across the board is the high-pitched whistle and the wind buffeting.

The wind noise is expected, but the whistling is unacceptable.

Cross winds are the worst and highly noticeable at higher speeds on the highway. Not sure if I went deaf already but I just crank the volume to 15 and I hear nothing.
