I basically gave them multiple opportunities to meet somewhere in the middle without giving them dealer names.

No movement, and it's not just that they wanted MSRP
I tried several times as well.

Me: I'm thinking about ordering a Wrangler
Them: MSRP

Me: I've decided to order a Wrangler
Them: MSRP

Me: I am ordering my Wrangler TODAY
Them: MSRP

Me: OK, I'm ordering today, like NOW.
Here's my quote, I'm willing to entertain any reasonable offer so I can buy from you NOW
Them: MSRP

Two of the dealers offered up:
No way that offer is real
There are some hidden catches
Wait til you get there!
They are losing money

The third simply said:
We will pass on this one

My thoughts:
The offer was real
There were no catches
I enjoyed being there immensely
Gupton made money, just not much

I think in the end there were 3 things in play

1) The locals have historically not discounted much and aren't gonna change
It has worked for them for years, however the equation has changed

2) They are scared to death with their empty lots. That I can't blame them for.

3) They don't like not being in control with a customer that has done his due diligence and is over playing all the stupid dealer games

I am in Nashville and never considered Gupton until I stumbled across this forum after buying my first Jeep in Franklin back in July. My initial thought was that a small dealer like Gupton would not be able to offer the best deals. I’ve never been more wrong ?
Exactly.

I have no idea what they do discount wise in normal times for lot units.

Ha, I got the.......well they will just order it with your info and then sell it out from under you. It's crazy that these dealers don't do their due diligence and check forums like this, etc. They asked where did I find this dealer, etc. Either they are lazy or just lying that they don't know about this.......I mean if I was a Jeep dealer don't you think you should maybe, just maybe check a Wrangler forum?

Also, looks like I may make this week happen, just got an e-mail from Renee that they dumped 80 vehicles on them all at once this week. Going to try and fly up Tuesday or Wednesday, drive slowly back down to SC.

Yeah, Walter at Gupton told me today that the regional dealers around here hate them. He said they did only make a very little on these forum and affiliate pricing deals, but that doing 160+ of those each month made up for it, as opposed to the 20 or so deals other dealers make in a month.

Before my appointment at 1pm, he’d already closed 7 deals on out of state orders from FL, IN, and NC. New owners all flew in today to pick them up.

Our dealer has been receiving orders placed between 9/25-9/30 during the last two weeks. I think we had a record of 4 weeks.

Hoping to get a group buy together at 9.5%!
Which dealer?
What kind of group buy are you talking about?
9.5% of what?

Story time:

I flew out and arrive in Nashville at 7AM on Saturday, got an uber to Gupton and was there before 8. They were already open and I was first one to pick up a jeep. Renee was super helpful, the whole staff was very nice. While I was there, 2 other people showed up to pick up their jeeps. As everyone knows, the whole lot is full of jeeps. I was on the road an hour later and was back in Wisconsin in 8 hours. All in all, it took 11 weeks from order to me taking delivery.

I didn't spend too much time on lot, just when they were cleaning and fueling my jeep, I walked around once and took some pics.

If I had to do it again, I would probably get the Jeep delivered home by paying for it be trailered. I hate driving super long road trips and the 8 hour trip was easy but so boring.

Headed there on a one way flight tomorrow, I have a comparable drive, but I'm going to take it slow through the Smoky Mountains, back up towards Boone/Pilot Mountain to visit some family then home to South Carolina. Look forward to getting some hiking and maybe a few light trails in on it during the next few days. Any suggestions on stops on the way back through Knoxville/Smokies? I pretty much have until Friday to get home.

After pickup I spent a night/ another afternoon in Nashville, and then drove to Gatlinburg for the weekend. The no highway route was at least 1-1.5 hours longer than the interstate...it was dark for the latter half of the trip so don't recall much of note. The first day I went to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the next Dollywood before heading towards another stop in VA.
