I tried several times as well.I basically gave them multiple opportunities to meet somewhere in the middle without giving them dealer names.
No movement, and it's not just that they wanted MSRP
Me: I'm thinking about ordering a Wrangler
Them: MSRP
Me: I've decided to order a Wrangler
Them: MSRP
Me: I am ordering my Wrangler TODAY
Them: MSRP
Me: OK, I'm ordering today, like NOW.
Here's my quote, I'm willing to entertain any reasonable offer so I can buy from you NOW
Them: MSRP
Two of the dealers offered up:
No way that offer is real
There are some hidden catches
Wait til you get there!
They are losing money
The third simply said:
We will pass on this one
My thoughts:
The offer was real
There were no catches
I enjoyed being there immensely
Gupton made money, just not much
I think in the end there were 3 things in play
1) The locals have historically not discounted much and aren't gonna change
It has worked for them for years, however the equation has changed
2) They are scared to death with their empty lots. That I can't blame them for.
3) They don't like not being in control with a customer that has done his due diligence and is over playing all the stupid dealer games
