Damn it. This thread reminded me that I forgot to put my side mirrors on and I have to drive to work in the morning. I don't mind driving on local roads without side mirrors, but I don't like driving without them on the freeway. I guess I'll just get in the middle lane and stay there until I need to exit.

In WA St, side mirror is required. Doors are required if equipped from the factory. Meaning some CJ's and MJ's are exempt from door requirement. Have not heard of anyone receiving a ticket.

Meet me at Chuy’s Restaurant in Bakersfield CA on the 19th for a Jeep Show N Shine. Not sure about the shine part since most Jeeps show up dirty. But beers are on me for anyone on this thread who shows up. Beautiful Bakersfield CA, some call it the Devil‘s armpit because it gets so hot here. But it’s home of the Buck Owen’s Crystal Palace and the Deja Vu Strip Club with 12 beautiful strippers and one ugly one.
Wow- 12 beautiful strippers and one ugly one , it’s still there ?! It’s been 30 years since we would sometimes lay over in B-town and enjoy cold beer and the local entertainment.

hope it’s not still the same “entertainment”. 😉

Yeah- and when you change to a shift that you get off at 2AM you evidently start weaving. It was in my 63 Jeep that of course had wander, but they hid in a small rest area before an old RR overpass (since replaced). The 3’rd time I was stopped for a sobriety test because I was “weaving” in under 2 weeks… “you were weaving step out of the vehicle” am I under arrest ? .. “no, step out of the vehicle” Am I Under Arrest… “Not Yet” this is the third time I have been stopped for weaving in two weeks since a shift change getting off at 2AM, if you think I’m drunk arrest me and give me a blood test…. “Well, it is an old Jeep, drive careful” . Not stopped again.
Cops in California have quotas, I assume many more do as well. Speed, seatbelt and DUI were the big three. When cops meet quotas they do not win a prize, management stays off their back and they might get out of a patrol unit some day. I remember way back when, there was a saying, if a ladder and tools are In the back of a pickup truck after 11 PM, 99% chance the driver is DUI. Guess what, It is true. People in California love laws and control, that’s what they created.

Assuming you were also in WI the office was flat wrong based on the vehicle code posted earlier. This is why I encourage politely informing them that they are wrong. Years later, same state, could have been the same officer... and they still Don't know the laws they are enforcing. It would almost be better if they wrote the tickets as at least then it would be documented in court that they are incompetent.
Michigan. Could also be wrong for Michigan but I don't know.

In hindsight, here is my take (of my situation). With doors off, it's just too hard to see behind / beside me in some critical areas within the sand dunes. With the sand dunes in West Michigan getting busier and busier, I really need to know what is beside me / behind me before making a move. So in my case, I need better doors off rear view mirrors for my own safety, not just for the law.

LOL. You probably wouldn’t recognize BField. It looks more like somewhere in L.A. now.

Got a warning for no mirrors in Lodi WI.
Neighbor had some bike mirrors from Walmart. $12.00
Love them! I don't have to remove them when I put the doors on.

Geez dude...look what you started. And I didn't even make it through page 2. :)

BTW: You'd think in this day and age of instant knowledge the cop could've taken a minute to google the law while finishing his/her donut before writing the ticket/warning.

You really are trying hard to avoid the simple fact that having mirrors on your Jeep is safe for those around you.
I could give to shits if you wear your seatbelt or drive a motorcycle without a helmet.
Mirrors being on a vehicle don't make it safe. Might make it easier to be safe, but it doesn't make it safe. You can accomplish the same level of safety with or without mirrors, just takes more or less work for the driver depending on level of equipment.

When you turn your head while moving you are not looking forward, and unless your eyes are where you ear is you have to lean and turn to get an good view of left/rear traffic.
At 60 mph that second to turn and look you've gone 80 feet.
By that same token, someone in your blind spot that you don't see in your mirrors will travel 80 ft in the second it takes to change lanes after missing them because you didn't turn your head.

Yeah no patience for the holier than thou types.
Put a mirror on your Jeep before you hurt yourself or others around you.
The absolute irony and lack of self awareness in this statement

If you just put mirrors on your Jeep we can all just get our 26 pages back.
I'm glad I'm retired...you guys got work in the morning.
I'm enjoying my coffee...about to play some Seger.
Awful bold of you to assume I work when I'm at work

You can tell who takes their driving seriously by the responses, if you don't understand the genius of mirrors can't help you.
You non mirror boys just make sure you don't hit someone on the road or their families for your freedumb.

Just when I thought the hearts and minds of folks in this thread had been changed and we were all ready for a group hug. I was imagining @Wbino driving around with no doors and mirrors, and @Zandcwhite putting a back the badge bumper sticker on his Jeep. Overly optimistic I guess 🤓

I'm all in for a group hug as long as nobody gets pissy about a little "oil check"
