Gorilla glass worth it?

It’s not bullet proof glass guys. Hit it hard enough and it will break. I have it and it’s cracked but it took some awful nasty stones before I finally took one that cracked it.

That’s been my experience with the regular glass as well. My windshield is three years old now; it has a few tiny chips here and there but so far hasn’t cracked yet.

Judging by the number of owners that are seeing their $495 Gorilla glass break a lot sooner, I’d say it is little more than snake oil.

Add to that dealers’ and FCA’s reported refusal to honor “the warranty,” and it looks like a big waste of money.

For me it was a $95 option and 1 free replacement. After that I’ll ghee whether or not I stay with it.

Good luck. Apparently, Jeep has been reneging on the “1 free replacement” part...

My basic glass cracked within a month. I paid $672 to have the dealership replace it with GG. So far Ive taken 2 hard hits and have zero damage. No chips, cracks, scratches etc. I figured, the basic glass to replace was $360, the GG gave me one free replacement. At worst, Id spend the same amount to replace the basic twice as the GG twice. So far Im very pleased with it.

That being said, at some point it will break. Its lasted twice as long as the basic one so far though.

Personally, no, not worth. I got a rock chip in my windshield (standard, not GG) literally 12 hours after I took delivery of my brand new Jeep - but would it have chipped anyways with GG? Impossible to know for sure, but I'm guessing probably.

My preferred way of approaching this is to get good windshield insurance coverage. My insurance does free chip repairs and $100 deductible windshield replacements. So the way I see it, I'd have to have 5 windshields completely break and be replaced before GG comes out ahead, and that's only assuming the GG glass doesn't break even once, which it probably will.

I’m on my second GG and I’m still good with it. First one too a big hit that would have been a whole lot worse with regular glass. It’s well worth it for me. Again, if it out lives 2 regular windshields it’s paid for itself. Some people just seem to think it is suppose to be bullet proof I guess.

I have never seen glass do that before from just tapping it.

My original standard glass did that exact thing. I saw a small crack, touched it with my finger and watched it spread from the drivers side to the passengers side edge. It’ll happen easier when its cold out and warm in the vehicle.

Almost to good to be true. - My dealer near L.A. (Auto Shaver) just quoted me $1320 for the GG windshield incl. parts and labor. That’s of course way too much..

It certainly is. But wait till 2024, the radio antenna is in the windshield. Wonder how many people will be retrofitting the 2023 antenna that they all complained about so they don’t have to pay $1500 for a windshield.
