You can catch a glimpse of it here above the fender.

Thanks, I like this location, looks like it would also be good for a taller antenna. How well has it been working here? Do you think closer to the front would make any difference?

yes, it would work well with a taller antenna as well.

that location has been great for me. Reception has been fine for the groups I ride with. You can’t see it from the drivers seat and it hasn’t been an issue with snagging or catching on anything on the trail.

with the mount and rubicon fenders that is the only position that works. Without rubicon fenders there is one other mount point closer to the front.

I have a similar set up that I just installed. I am curious, I checked my MXT275 with a SWR meter and my readings are at 2.8 on channel 1 and 2.5 on channel 22. I emailed Midland and they stated that the MXTA26 antenna would not have to be trimmed and that these readings are too high. They stated my antenna would not work in this setup. Did you use an SWR to check your readings?

Thanks,
Dave

Do you also have the spare tire in place? You might try taking it off and see if the SWR improves.

I did take the readings with the spare tire mounted. I can try it later tonight with the spare off.

Curious, does anyone have a CB and GMRS antenna mounted to the tailgate?

Yes. I use two Kraken Offroad antenna mounts, one on each side of the spare tire mount. Link below. Pull the spare tire and they mount up in literally less than 2 minutes. Mounting the antennas and running the cables thru the tailgate door and into passenger compartment will take you a bit longer, obviously. I use only “no ground plane” antennas on these mounts; a 3’ Fiberglass Firestik for the CB on the passenger side and a Diamond Antenna NR73BNMO on the driver’s side for my VHF/UHF radio, which can run GMRS (& Ham). Then both seem to work fine although, keep in mind, every time you open the tailgate the coax will bend. Not a great long-term solution, but I live with it and it continues to work. No issues with the wiper. BTW, they like Mojito! LOL

antenna there, never checked anything with a meter.... but it has always worked communicating with others who were miles away.

I too used the Kraken mount, but I also sanded the paint away the paint where the mount attaches to both the swing gate and where the antenna mounts to that mount itself....

I mounted my ghost antenna on the hood. Haven't tested the signal strength yet.
