I can't seem to find this anywhere, but I know you can display the current gear on the 8 speed automatics, but does anyone know if it can be done on a manual? I've always liked being able to quickly see what gear i'm in on the display. It's easy enough to look down at the shifter, but I've had it in my last few cars and have come to like that little feature. Anyone know if this can be done? It doesn't show up in the screen settings like the automatic transmissions do. Thanks.

It can be done in other M/T vehicles (Mazda Miata) but I don't believe the JL has done it.

Paging Dr. Dan for the answer!

All my recent wrx's and even my jetta tdi had it. If it can't be done it's not a huge issue, I've just gotten very used to it over the past few years!

Not trying trying to make fun or anything but shouldn't you know what gear you're on if you're driving manual? I would understand if it was an 8 speed manual transmission but we're only talking 6. Speed/revs should give it out, or at least it has always been the case with me on most vehicles. If it's for aesthetic reasons then I would understand.

Well by that logic, I should know how fast I'm going by what RPM and gear i'm in, who needs a digital speedometer as well. It's mostly for aesthetics, I've learned to like the feature :)

If u know the vehicle, yes...at least within reasonable accuracy on flat surface :giggle:....it's a brand new one so maybe that shouldn't fully apply. that's the case with me at least. I mean, I know I'm non 2nd going 40 with the engine roaring lol
Aesthetics is fully understandable...I hated it when cars had the warning light telling u it was time to shift like an old friends Chevy. Haven't heard Jeep having that so that's good

Lol from my memory YJs and TJs both had upshift lights. Extremely... optimistic upshift lights

Dude you guys come on he just likes the feature. I like it too, although never owned an m/t with it.

And we all make gear flubs at times. Any real manual driver has gotten it wrong and looked silly at some point. Ever reached for nothing since you were wrong about which gear you were in? Lol

Nope. At least I haven't found it. Isn't that really what the tach is for? If I'm looking at the instruments, at all, while shifting, it is the tach, and maybe the speedo. Funny, though, with an auto in manual mode, it really is a must-have. They don't have the feel. With a true manual transmission, your ass cheeks tell you what gear you are in, with a little input from your ears and from the shift lever position.

It's almost as if I titled this "How to tell what gear I'm in"...I've never owned an automatic vehicle, all 9 of my vehicles have been manuals, theres no issue with knowing what gear I'm in. It's a feature that I've had on most previous cars, saw they had it for automatics and wondered if the manuals had it.

And the upshift light in my tj was brutal. If I listened to that thing I'd be in 5th gear going 30mph

I havent found that feature either. Never forget the gear. I guess you could forget if you are in 5th or 6th, as there is not much difference between the two.
