I'll have to say after watching the first minute and skipping through it to see what it was about I won't be buying one, so in that respect I'm glad it was 26 minuites....it was a good warning to lazy people like myself
I completely respect why you would feel that way.

I see some saying it's too short but others saying loner ones let the cap scratch the paint. My Suburban doesn't have a gas cap at all. I like that. But then again I don't plan on running it in the mud up to the windows. Maybe Jeep will make long tethers optional for $5
(Smothering sarcasm)

But hopefully, for those willing to pay more, the added feature of pre-brittling the tether; marketed as the "easy break" option; a play on the child's toy of my generation: the "easy bake" oven.

Sean, with sarcasm, don't you know that loving a brand of vehicle is defined as accepting the fact that no other brand designer in his/her right mind would fail to include a feature like a gas cap cover, that we as Wrangler owners have come to expect is an accesory?

I literally coined a word for it:

https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=chjeeped

As an aside, I just looked at my link for the locking gas cap cover and it reads:

"Wrangler JL Keyed to Ignition Locking Gas Cap"

I'm going to suggest that the sellers re-word this title to read:

"Wrangler JL Capable of Bring Keyed to Ignition Locking Gas Cap with Needle Nose Plyers, Previous examination of an instructional video, and a Sedative"

:) Definately the MOPAR description lacks a certain amount of honesty

Well I just clicked through my dealer's inventory and noticed all of the Saharas have the gas door. I'm wondering if mine was supposed to have it now....

Edit: love the new term lol!

My Sahara, purchased in April, also lacked one from the factory.

Am I the only one here that doesn't have the gas door?
Must be. ;)
Seriously though, the Rubicon comes with one, all the rest of us have to add it later.

As for the tether length. I have no issues. I added a fuel door, then stuck one of those 3M hooks to the inside of it, to hang the cap from (painted the hook black of course). Prior to that I didn't have any issues with the cap being in the way though.

Joe, one serious tongue-in-cheek suggestion to what clearly is a humorous picture on your part....

do kindly fabricate it in brass please...the sparks thing and all with other metals;)

….things could "end badly" otherwise.

You need a padlock that will get as cold as possible but have a tiny key so you can't unlock it wearing gloves... like the gate at my office...

[Edit to include correct quoted response]
Sounds like something your dealer is adding themselves. That or maybe a change for 2019, but it wasn't an option or standard item for 2018 MY on anything but the Rubi.

Black Fuel Filler Door is listed as a standard feature on the Jeep website where you "build" a 2018 JL Sahara

Exterior Design

  • "Jeep" Badge
  • "Sahara" Badge
  • "Trail Rated" Badge
  • "Wrangler" Badge
  • Black Front Frame Overlay
  • Black Fuel Filler Bezel
  • Black Fuel Filler Door
  • Body Color Fender Flares
  • Non-Locking Fuel Filler Cap Without Discriminator
  • Tethered Fuel Filler Cap
But it could be that it was added sometime during the year as a standard feature

Must be. I got mine in July, and it wasn't an option then.

Funny you should ask. When I go over to NJ for other reasons, I tend to fill up there because gas is cheaper than in NY, and Jersey mandates that gas must be filled by an attendant.

===

Anecdote: the other day a young lady pulls her vehicle up to a pump near the one I'm using (in my NY.) She has California tags and I can see she's confused (this is State, NOT gender based ignorance) that she's not able to get gas to flow without holding on to the squeeze trigger.

"New to NY," I ask with a smile. Different States, different gas fill up requirements, as I explain to her that NY requires dead man switches (i.e. must be attended during refill) on gas nozzles.
