I contacted jeep cares about my hinge corrosion. They won't help me get it warrantied because I'm 93 days out of warranty, 78 of those days it was at the dealer getting a new engine. They did say that if I was interested in paying for the repair they could get me a technical advisor to assist. Jeep cares may be an option to find a repair facility.

Is the corrosion only on the hinge or is it also on the door? If the hinge only you could order a couple of replacement hinges, apply rattle can primer and matching paint on the new hinge followed by clear coat (with hardener). May not be perfect but might work good enough to be mostly unnoticeable. Just a thought.

It's coming out onto the door at the back of the hinge. The door paint is bubbled up. It's not as bad as most that I've seen pictures of, but it's a defect that Jeep knows about.

I'm considering options to prevent it on the other 3 doors and on my 2021 JLUR. I like the weld74 hinges, especially the anodized one but they are spendy at $600 per vehicle.

The problem is galvanic corrosion, reportedly caused by using zinc hinge pads on aluminum doors (there is a chemical reaction between the two metals.) the problem impacts Jeep Wranglers manufactured between 2018-2020 (I have a 2020 with paint bubbling on nearly every point on the car. I am on a very long list for repairs under warranty.).
Not galvanic corrosion. Both the doors and hinges are aluminum. The zinc shims were added to the hinges starting late 2022. They are not causing the issue, they are a sacrificial anode remedy to keep the unpainted area under the hinges from corroding.

Really the problem is the metal plate behind the door frame that secures the bolts. That plus there isn’t a water tight seal at the hinge and door panel. One plus one equals 😠
The problem is the aluminum panels on the JL are not properly prepped at the factory. The metal plate inside the door cavity is not the issue. The doors are corroding in places nowhere near the hinges.

The fact that they added zinc shims would severely imply that galvanic corrosion is / was an issue. While the doors and hinges are aluminum, the associated pins and hinges are not.

There's an additional issue that seems to be the result of these aluminum components being poorly prepped. "Poorly prepped" can mean a lot of things, one of which would include the introduction of dissimilar metal particulates, which, of course, would eventually result in galvanic corrosion.

Sure, there are other issues that could cause the paint to bubble on our aluminum components, but galvanic corrosion would seem to be the most likely / primary culprit.

The hinges are aluminum. The pins are not but hinges that have been removed show the corrosion starting away from mounting bolts. The presence of a sacrificial anode doesn't automatically mean galvanic corrosion. Zinc anodes are commonly used in marine applications to protect metals that are submerged in water. In this case, the corrosion is a direct result of the raw aluminum under the hinges. Raw aluminum will corrode when exposed to the elements, it doesn't require contact with a dissimilar metal.

You're thinking it only impacts 2018-2020??? The TSB from 2023 covers through 2023:

You are correct in the model years. Typo on my part, or maybe I have an earlier TSB. The model’s impacted (or at least those now showing corrosion) are 2018-2023. Regardless, I am concerned about the length of time to schedule a fix and how long it will take. I am also quite pissed the repair does not include a loaner car for the duration since my original dealer is 70 miles from my home. At the very least a low cost rental option should be offered. I intend to message the local AG about this.

I had my Jeep evaluated at the dealership on Aug 2nd, 45 days before the corrosion warranty expired. I was told as long as the claim was submitted before the warranty expired the total expense would be covered. Sept 30 I was told that the parts were finally available, but now Stellantis had changed it's stance and since my warranty expired Sept 15 I would be required to cover 10% of the total cost, roughly $1400. Is anyone aware of this recent change to the claim process or experienced the same issue?
Seems to me that if you filed for the repair under warranty under the terms stated at the time of filing then later decisions cannot legally be grandfathered into the agreement. Hopefully, you have a signed work order as proof you filed. I have not heard of such a development yet, but would suspect the dealer might be trying to cover costs. Ask for a copy if the Stellantis work order or something corroborates what the dealer is telling you.

My original dealer is about 1,200 miles away. In theory any dealership would handle it. It doesn't hurt to try.

‘20 Rubi JL. After having the hood edges and door hinges replaced over a year ago the issue came back. The bubbling is all over the door edges. Luckily, the doors are being completely replaced in December. Jeep will NOT replace the hood unless there is a hole in it ( rusted through ) I am told by the dealership doing the work. I have one year left on the corrosion/ paint warranty so I’m bringing it in for even the slightest issue so it’s documented. Amazing to have such a rugged, well built off road vehicle only to have the outer shell with such poor quality. This company really went downhill. For anyone having these issues document EVERYTHING!!! More pics, more conversation with the repair dept and receipts showing warranty claims completed the better off you’ll be 🙏

I've been dealing with this BS for 12 months now and have yet to speak with anyone who can or wants to assist me at Jeep. I filed my claim under warranty in Oct 2023 but at the time parts were unavailable. 5 yr warranty expired in Feb 2024 and of course now that parts are available they are giving me the runaround since I am out of warranty. The dealership backs me up on all of the claim details as well and it is all documented which just agitates me more.

Every door of mine is like this.

Keep hammering them. It’s disgusting how this company handled this issue. I can tell you with 100% certainty that much of the decline Jeep sales is due to this very issue. Incompetent management.

Oh for sure - I've been steadily calling them at 2-3 days a week. It's almost comical the canned responses I get and what feels like stall tactics. Fingers crossed I'll get it taken care off - until then all I can do is keep putting more miles on it

We understand why this happens when it does happen…

But how come not every single owner isn’t having this issue when it’s two diff metals? Genuinely curious…it just seems like it would happen to every single Jeep when it’s an “inside to out” issue and not an “outside to in” issue like keeping it clean would be
