2021 Jeep Wrangler 4Dr
Hey guys, I have a 2021 Wrangler 4DR. I purchased it couple years ago from Manheim Auto Auction. It has been good so far, recently I saw some corrosion on the door hinges and around it. I called the dealership, and they said it would cover under factory corrosion warranty. But when I took it in, they ran my vin and said they can't help me with it because the jeep was from Canada, and it was first sold in Canada. I have to take it to Canada. Has anyone come across this kind of issue?

No, a Canadian-sold Jeep's manufacturer warranty is generally not honored by U.S. dealerships because Jeep Canada and Jeep U.S. are separate entities, with each country's warranty program servicing vehicles based on their region of sale. However, there are a few exceptions, such as for Canadian citizens who permanently relocate to the U.S. and meet specific criteria, or for vehicles that have had their VIN properly transferred to the U.S. market by FCA.

Why the Warranty is Not Honored
  • Separate Entities:
Jeep in Canada (FCA Canada) and Jeep in the U.S. (FCA US) operate as distinct companies and manage their own warranty systems.

  • Voided on Export:
When a vehicle is exported to another country, the original manufacturer's warranty is typically voided.
Potential Exceptions
  • Permanent Relocation:
If you are a Canadian citizen moving to the U.S. permanently, you may be able to have your warranty transferred by providing proof of permanent relocation, such as a visa or job offer.

  • VIN Transfer:
It may be possible to have the vehicle's VIN transferred to the U.S. market with assistance from FCA, which could then allow for the warranty to be honored.
What to Do
  1. Contact the Selling Dealer/FCA:
Contact the dealership where the Jeep was sold or call Jeep customer service in Canada to explain your situation.

  2. Provide Proof:
Be prepared to provide proof of ownership, Canadian registration, and any documentation related to relocation or a possible VIN transfer.

  3. Check for Mopar Extended Warranties:
Look into aftermarket options like Mopar extended warranties, which might provide coverage in the U.S. even if the factory warranty is not valid.

I also had a 2020 that was sold in Canada and had a Canadian VIN tag on the door. I was very fortunate that the vehicle was originally ordered by and sold to a rental company that does business in the US and Canada. Because of that, it came with a manufacturers warranty that was valid in both countries. My corrosion was covered...twice.

Look up your build sheet and double check to see if you may have the US & Canadian coverage.
