2018 JLU 4 Door Rubicon - I’m late to the game, my hinge areas are bubbling and chipping the paint (all 4 doors and the 2 hood hinges). I didn’t realize this was a widespread issue until a coworker told me their brother has the same issue and it was covered by warranty. I took it into the dealer immediately and they told me my corrosion warranty expired. They told me to call Jeep corporate, after 1.5 hours on the phone (mainly on hold) I have a case number but the jeep rep told me it likely wouldn’t go anywhere since the corrosion warranty was expired. Any advice? Or am I going to have to fork out my own money for new doors, paint job, and labor?

I did notice it, but I thought it was only under the 36 month warranty which had passed. I didn’t realize it was a wide spread problem people were having or that it was only being covered for a certain amount of time.
It’s actually washed regularly which has likely caused this problem to become even worse.

I’m here looking for advice on if anyone has had luck getting it repaired, if it was filed under the corrosion warranty, or if the manufacturer covered it.

Oh got ya. Yeah I’ve seen a bunch of these and sometimes Jeep cares helps cover them and sometimes not. Not sure why when they know it’s their dissimilar metal issue that’s causing the corrosion.

I’d call customer care and get a case number at the very least and maybe just maybe they will take care of you.🤞🏻 good luck.

Let this be a lesson, ALWAYS CHECK YOUR WARRANTY COVERAGE when you buy a new car. Besides the "bumper to bumper" and "powertrain" there is also an emissions warranty along with corrosion warranty, although corrosion warranties vary quite a bit the emissions has a fairly long minimum required by law. Never assume anything when it comes to warranties!

I would still try to see if jeep cares will help you at all. If not, I mean you where already just going to live with it sounds like so just keep doing that unless you wanna pay for new doors

None of this was ever explicitly covered by the corrosion warranty anyway. It was covered out of goodwill due to the widespread presence of the problem.

If Stellantis refuses to cover, Take it to a body shop. See how much they quote. Dealership may try to rip you off.

You have to call jeep corporate and be the nicest person possible and say how disappointed you are that it happened and how much you love your jeep. And they may decide to cover it. That is what I did and currently they may be covering it for me and I have a 2018 also. But we did go back and forth for a month to eventually get it approved. So if they say they may looking in to covering it may take a little while so just wait and see if you hear anything back from jeep and pray at least that is what I was doing

That makes more sense! After I got home from work, My husband actually said he asked if the dealer could fix it back in early 2020 (when we were there on a touch screen issue) and the dealer said no. Since late 2018s were the first year model they did this on I’m assuming they just hadn’t known it would be such an issue. My husband also reminded me when we tried searching on the internet about it back the. that we weren’t finding much info on others dealing with it. I’m thinking the corrosion for most probably was not noticeable yet or in the very early stages for others at the time.

I’ll be mentioning this to the rep tomorrow in hope they help us get it corrected.

I appreciate you sharing that info! That’s what the dealer told me, just call and be the nicest person possible. I’m glad to hear there may be a chance of getting it covered, and glad yours got approved! I was bounced around between quite a few departments, was there a specific number you had luck with calling? Not sure if there threads will allow the sharing of a number though, I’m pretty new to this. The first two numbers the dealership gave me for Jeep customer care were actually for Medicare 🤪 (I’m only 29! Lol) they said they must have changed numbers and the third was finally related to Jeep.

The number they gave me for Jeep Corporate:

800-992-1997

I Don’t remember exactly what I did but once you called the number what I selected I think I just selected all other inquiries. Good luck though my corrosion was definitely not as bad as yours so hopefully they do approve it for you since you need it more.
