Fender Chop/split Worth it or a Mess?

I’m just finishing up the fender split with the Quake LEDs and Motobilt inner fenders. I see the photos posted earlier in the thread but I’m hoping @Roky or @Headbarcode could post a photo with better lighting of how you used the lower front inner fender brace. I’m guessing you cut it down and possibly reoriented it. I just don’t want to botch it. Thanks

This is the best pic I have , I can snap a pic for you tomorrow if you need a different angle or something……You can’t really mess it up, just hold it in that location and you just trim it up until you get it to fit in there. I used a dremel with cut off wheel…there’s more than one way to do it……

This is the best pic I have , I can snap a pic for you tomorrow if you need a different angle or something……You can’t really mess it up, just hold it in that location and you just trim it up until you get it to fit in there. I used a dremel with cut off wheel…

Is it in the original orientation? Are the edges of the brace where it touches the body and the fender in their original state and the side nearest the tire is what is cut back? Sorry I’m looking at my plastic brace and your photo and spinning it around and flipping it over and feel like I’m failing an IQ test.

I am very happy I did the chop. I would recommend the AAL fender hardware kit as I have no flopping at all (I did drill the fender for the bolt instead of using 3m) I originally did all AAL. Lights, inners hardware and was very satisfied but could never get rid of the dash error. Talked to AAL and went through two sets of lights and 2 sets of harnesses and every tazer cheat code could find. I switched to quake and no error. As someone earlier said I believe it’s a Jeep to Jeep thing. (AALs great CS gave me a full refund for the lights) If the Quakes crap out I’m just going to swap fenders lol.

Just put your brace in there and just cut back as much as you want, it’ll come to you…take a pic of yours and I can try and trace where I cut mine….

Just put your brace in there and just cut back as much as you want, it’ll come to you…take a pic of yours and I can try and trace where I cut mine….

Sure no worries…… I just put it in there the way it came, then I cut it back to make it less noticeable…. The plastic inner fender covered it before, and I didn’t want it sticking out as much as it was…..

I also left the rear brace in when I did mine. I went an extra step and left a lot of the inner structure in place as well. I went with AAL and they have severely yellowed, but they just updated their designs and now diode dynamics is going to build their new lights.

Keeping the black backer part still plastic welded to the outer flare keeps it super rigid.

Ok looking at it again this morning, I don’t how I was making it so complicated. As you said, just put it back the way it came. It won’t fit any other way. Thanks again

Here's my cut down plastic piece from the factory inner fender structure. After trimming both pieces, I installed them on the same side that they originally came off of. It looks like Roky put the left on the right and the right on the left. Not a big enough functional difference to not work the same, but it does make the pieces look different when they are flipped.

Here's my cut down plastic piece from the factory inner fender structure. After trimming both pieces, I installed them on the same side that they originally came off of. It looks like Roky put the left on the right and the right on the left. Not a big enough functional difference to not work the same, but it does make the pieces look different when they are flipped.
